Gadget has a lot in common with a broken faucet – HELP
 
Gadget has a lot in common with a broken faucet – HELP / they both run all over the house.....


Gadget is five mos and two days old, well up until about 3 weeks ago this dog was pretty much house trained, now he runs around and pisses on EVERYTHING. I've got pristine hardwood flooring in the house and he's going to ruin it. Gadget is scheduled to be neutered on his birthday in November

do you think this peeing everywhere will change?

What can I do until then? Honestly I can't have this, I’m going nuts.

So, what are my options (right now he won't even go to the bathroom outside very well - he only poops outside)

So, before I go completely mad and have cooked gadget for dinner... (laugh)

What can I do!!!!!

Also he doesn’t pee in his cage.

Go back to crate training. Don't give him run of the house. Continue to reward him for going outside and never let him out of your sight, even if it means keeping him on a leash. Go back to potty training 101. If he is marking, it will get better after he is neutered. Also, MAKE SURE you clean everything with nature's miracle or something similar. If they smell urine they will think it's OK to go in that spot.

Id opt for kenneling Gadget now until the housebreaking is complete. Hopefully the neautering will help but Im guessing the training will have to continue even afterwards.

LOL. I am laughing along with you.. not at you. I think at 5 months they are difficult. in my experience they kind of regress with the potty training. I had to stay with the constant eye on them. I made sure when I caught them peeing in the house I would yell no no and startle them in the act. then immidately say out and take them to the door. when they pottied out side i would give a treat. the treat thing worked for me. I could generally tell when they were searching for a place to potty. so i would say do you want out? they would then go to the door. and i would praise them.
keep in mind i am not a good trainer but my 2 have been pretty good about this. my house work has suffered greatly due to the constant eye. now that they are both trained to let me know when they want out I can try to catch up on the cleaning and cooking. LOL

i read on here some place that using a cleaning product that doesn't contain amonia will help. I tried that too. I think it did help.
I forgot to add I liked the ' have a lot in common with the broken faucet' line. LOL

I'd also use a belly band for when he's not in the crate.

Do you think that would hurt gadgets personality or scalability any?

right now his cage is in the living room, should I move it to a bedroom where we are not distracting him?

I'd like to just keep him in small room, however my home is an open floor plan on the living level and the only thing I could do is get a big cage for him

I really don't like keeping him caged when we're here at the home, just seems kinda cruel too me.

You can give it a try and see if Gadget doesn't seem to bothered by it. I've so often seen that Yorkie's and other dogs really enjoy being in their kennels, it gives them sense of security and a place to call their own.

Those larger play pens for animals work great. Other members here on YT have them and really enjoy using them.

I don't agree with any dog being left in a small kennel for long periods of time, they must come out for affection and potty breaks. But short periods are usually never a problem.

For the times when you are away for great lengths of time the larger play pen might be awesome for you.

Our trainer had us keep Copper on a leash at all times while he is out of the crate. You can loop 2 leashes together until he gets a little more trustworthy. But keep him with you in the same room and watch him like a hawk. It is a little cumbersome at first, but you will get used to it. This way, he cannot go off someplace to do his business. He has to do it in front of you, and you can catch him and say "NO" and then "Outside" and take him out. When you are cooking or doing, laundry, etc and cannot watch him, put him in his crate. Only let him out when you can have him with you. Eventually, you can let the leash go and then, kind of watch him. Eventually, he will get the idea. I have had Copper in the crate while I am at work since he was a small puppy. When I get home, we did the leash thing. Now he is 8 months old, and I can leave him in the living room with all doors shut and his crate open in case he wants a nap. So far, no accidents when I return home. I have a neighbor who comes over and lets him out a couple of times a day while I am at work. Give it a couple more months, and try the leash. He will learn.

A belly band will help you so he can still be out around your home.
It's not easy to train them, but they do learn.
It just takes time, Hang in there!!!! :)
