Spooked by high pitched sounds?? Last week, my dh & I had to run an errand. He remembered about the time we went out the door that he left his cell phone.....didn't need it, so on we went. We weren't gone that long, but when we returned, Bella did not meet us @the door. We knew something was wrong & frantically started searching for her. She was hiding & was so Scared, panting excessively which she never does. We of course held her forever, tried to coax her into drinking some water. Tried to think of what could've happened. Later, my dh's phone beeped very Loudly....almost like a fire alarm high pitch! He had a msg while gone & it was letting him know. We realized this is what scared Bella.....poor baby!!:( She usually is not afraid of sounds, but I recognized this because my daughter's dog is very much afraid of these high pitched type sounds. He hates the microwave beeps!! Tonite, while I was cooking dinner, Bella had another episode. My dh had just left. I gave Bella her bully stick to keep her amused. I noticed she took it, but not with the ususal great enthusiasm. She walked slowly to her bed. Not very long after, she came to me & wanted to be held. She was trembling a little, so I wrapped her in a blanket & held her tight. But it wasn't that she was cold.....she was Scared of something. I don't recall any noises, but again some noise really spooked her. She's fine after awhile with being reassured!! This is not like her, so it has to be related to the incident last week that is making her uneasy about sounds! Wanted others to be aware! Has anyone's babies had similiar incidents?? |
My dexter only freaks out and does the same thing with cell phone and with smoke detectors and it seems the smoke detector battery dies when dh is gone and it is at 3 in the morning it is a nightmare as he pants and freaks until i pull the battery out :( |

I was actually going to make a similar post tonight. My little guy is extremely afraid of the smoke detector. We have one that is hard wired in. (it was here when we bought the house) There is no way to remove the battery when cooking. Unfortunately Italian sausage sets it off. As soon as I turned the hood fan on over the over tonight he freaked out and ran to look up at the smoke detector. He was shaking by then and jumped in my lap. It wound up going off and he was shaking so bad I thought his fur was going to fall off. I noticed the panting too. Once in a while he will be scared and bark at something stupid, but the smoke detector is the only thing that completely terrifies him. Our older dog is terrified of fireworks and lightening. She hides if she sees the flashes or even hears thunder. Poor Bella, I hate to see them shaking like that. :( |

Sunnie is very sensitive to sound. If she's on someone's lap and they sing, she will get in their face and paw at them to stop. She turns on her back in your face. When DH practices his harmonica he goes into the bedroom or he goes outside (she's ok with it if she's out in the yard). It's been that way since she was little. She's the only one of the 4 that shows any sensitivity to sharp noise. |

I'm not sure why they do it, except maybe the high pitch hurts their sensitive ears? Not sure, but I'm always careful never to set off the smoke alarm... |
