How to protect Tobys coat during hydrotherapy Toby has a nice silky coat. He is going to hydrotherapy to rehabilitate his hip after surgery for Legg Perthes. It is causing havoc with his coat. I assume there are loads of chemicals in the pool for hygiene purposes. The therapist washes him every other week, and he is just rinsed the weeks in between (he goes once a week). He is given a quick blow dry with a cool blaster, but not combed down at the time or anything. The whole session including wash and dry is only half an hour, so there is minimal grooming time. I have to do this when I get him home. I wonder if I put some conditioner on his coat before he went into the pool, would it protect it a bit, reduce the mats etc? Am sure she wont be best pleased, getting conditioner in her water, but I'm not bothered about her! |
I have no experience with this in a Yorkie coat, but given it is ''hair''... I would assume it is the same as a person... in that case i would... Shampoo with a clarifying shampoo, condition, and oil, after each dip in the pool. |
