how to add a baby yorkie with an adult yorkie? i have a 6 yr old female and i am wondering what the best way would be to add a pup to our family. sorry if this has been asked and answered lots before, i am brand new to forums and learning as i go! |
I think it depends on your dogs personality. Does she like other dogs? Has she ever been around a puppy? I must say that 6 yrs old is getting older and most dogs that are around that age may not like a puppy around if they have been the only dog in the house. Personally if you don't have your heart set on a " puppy " maybe getting an older yorkie around a year may be a better option. A 1 year old would still be playful but not overly playful like a puppy which MAY bother your older yorkie. |
Hi and welcome. It will take time for the 6 yr old to get used to a new pup. From what I understand introduce them a little at a time. I recently introduced a 7.5 week old boston terrier to a 3 yr old yorkie and 1 yr old chi. I am still having trouble with Gypsy (yorkie) getting a long with Sophie (bt). But after 3 months she tolerates her more. Pups are so rambunctious it may puzzle or annoy the older one. Good Luck. Others will be able to help you more than me I am sure. |
We got our yorkie when our toy female poodle was 7 years old. Prissy had never had puppies and I think she must have just taken Jasmine under her wing. They have been best friends. Now Jasmine is a year old and you can't separate them and Prissy has been a great help in training Jasmine. |
