Bella? Is Bella the most common dog name at present? Have seen many here (Mia's, too!), and also at the Doggie Park, where I take Pips. There, I know of at least 5 or 6! (but, my cousin & many friends also have Bellas). Does anyone name it from the Spanish bella = beautiful & pronounce it as such (bay-shuh)? That was the only thing I could think of, so is there another meaning behind it :confused:? |
I have a little Bella...well Princess Isabella Grace to be exact. Lol. I don't pronounce it the Spanish way you mentioned. This is the definition I used when naming her: "[Bella] is of Italian and Latin origin, and its meaning is "beautiful". Also a short form of Isabel or Isabella (Hebrew) "God's promise"." Hope this helps. :) |
I see. I really love the entire name. I speak Spanish like a porteņa (a person from Buenos Aires, Argentina  ), so I guess in other Spanish dialects, it would be "bay-uh". The people at the park say bell-a, so I just wondered if there was something else! Cause in Spanish, it means beautiful, as well :) |
I have a Bella also. But two years ago or so I had already decided my next puppy would be carrying that name. At the time I was thinking of an Australian Cattle dog since we already have one. |
I have noticed a lot of Bellas........I also have a dog with a popular name, Daisy. Anybody else have a Daisy? Any other more popular names? |
It is becoming very popular. I have seen a lot of Bella's in my area as well. |
It is a pretty name. |
I love the name Bella. I almost named my daughter that (but it was vetoed by my husband!). I know that the Twilight phenomenon has a big something to do with it! At least, that's my reason for loving the name lol! |
This is the definition I used when naming her: "[Bella] is of Italian and Latin origin, and its meaning is "beautiful". Also a short form of Isabel or Isabella (Hebrew) "God's promise". My Bella was named for the same. |
Bella is the name of the main character in The Twilight Saga. Maybe people are naming their dogs after her? It is a very pretty name. :) |
I have always loved that name.(I also love Ella.) Now we have a Bella Mia. We pronounce it every which way. Bella with the double L in spanish, Isabella...she knows who we are talking to.:D |

I like the name Bella, but Isabell/a is great, too. I was going to name Pippi Lola as in Franka Potente's role in the German film, Run, Lola, Run. I also considered a host of German and Danish (Nordic) names (i was born in Germany w/a Nordic (Danish) father), but nobody in America would be able to pronounce them! I know of 1 Daisy - an all white Jack Russell. Unbelievably smart!! |
Miss Bella I have a Bella, I don't know where I picked up that name but it just sounded good. I found out later what it meant. It fits her to a tea...Must be a popular name. cheryl |
