Need Advice.. Stopping Puppy Mill Without getting your house burned down? What steps can I take? I really don't want to let them know it is me because we live in a rural area. Most people don't see anything wrong with it but they also don't know all the story. She meets most people because she says she is hard to find. Since I am a breeder people think I am just trying to cut the competition. This is their income and if they know I am trying to take it away I really fear for the safety of my kids. She just lost pups because they froze to death. They all live outside in buildings. The power went out and she didn't even go get them and bring them in her house. It seemed to be clean so I can't go on that. I am just sick.. this morning the windchill is -7. She is AKC. I know of one pup she sold last year die becuase low sugar it was only 5 weeks old. In the last year I have had at least 5 people contact me wanting help for their sick Yorkie. They never researched until they got them and when they started they found me. What can I do and still keep my family safe? |
Report here to Animal control... file a complaint |
I have no answer for you, but wanted to say good luck!!! That is horrible that those babies froze to death. They need to be stopped!! |
I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't, I feel horrible for those poor puppies, please whatever you do be Super Careful, you never know who is friends with who and who is related to who specially in a small town, I know because I was born and raised in one. hugs, Carmen in nj |
In the town i moved from you could write a letter to the editor & it was printed in the local newspaper and people could reply to your article by doing the same. Maybe you could write a series of letters to the editor of your local paper, maybe it will help educate the people that has not a clue on the age that puppies need to be before leaving, weight or the care that this breed as well as others requires. tell them about puppymills with sick/dying puppies, a lot of people still don't know they exsist. this might be a better way to draw attention to the p mill that you was talking about and to keep your family safe |

Melissa, that is horrible that those puppies have died. It is so cold this winter. I think Betty has a great idea:) Get the word out and maybe the locals will step up and help after they have heard someone else take a stand. Sometimes all it takes is one person to get the word out. I hope they are stopped. That is just awful. |
Could you call into Animal Control and place an anonymous complaint because the puppies died? Isn't that considered animal cruelty? I would go that route, because where I am from, a letter to the editor is not going to be printed unless you put in your contact information. |
contact your local news station...I reported one in my area the news ended up doing an undercover investigative report and uncovered many people who bought sick puppies from the place. They just moved to a different town but at the very least the story educated people the difference between a good and bad breeder. |
I'll call Animal Control I'm in Bluefield about a half hour from you. I'll call and complain. This state is full of puppy mills. and the locals think nothing of it. |

If people are having problems with puppies they have purchased from this person then it is THEY who need to file complaints and you need to direct them to do so. Document every conversation you have with these people who call you. |
I would call EVERY agency I could a different one each day, 1 night call the police say you hear dogs howling, next day call animal protective services, next day call your town offices, what ever sources you have avaialble I would use, the newspaper too!! Anywhere and Anyone who will listen!! If they do something to harm you or threaten too call the police and get a civil restraining order... I highly doubt they will risk going to jail.... |
I am trying to get all her contact info. I only know her by her first name. I have had several people tell me they are crazy. I was really afraid to even post this much. |
If you know the address, you can do a look up of tax records for that location. It will give you the entire names of the person that owns the location. You can go from there once you get all of her information. |
