I cannot call my babies dogs. I know they are dogs but I think of them as my babies. DH is daddy and I am mommy when we talk to the babies or each other.:) |
What a sweet thought. Really, I do not mind when someone calls my furkids dogs, since that is what they are. Lol. ;) |

I don't think it's derogatory, but then I think...If someone was continually referencing me as 'human...' :D In Australia I had never even heard the term furbaby before I went onto American forums... |

I actually am the same way. I knew it was ridiculous, but I cringed internally every time someone used to say "dogs" as in referring to my babies, but it doesn't bother me so much anymore unless they use it as a derogatory way. |
well... I love my dogs just as much as anyone else.. but they only time I call them furbabies.. is on this forum.. they are dogs, plain and simple. Yes, they are a HUGE part of my family and I love them very much but I dont treat them like they are my "babies", I treat them like they are dogs.. I dont carry them around like I would one of my children, they walk on leashes, potty outside and sleep in kennels at night.. (next to my bed of course.:))...but they are spolied with lots of love, good quality food, and they are well taken care of... Im sorry but I wouldnt expect my friends or families to call my dogs "furbabies" and get upset when they dont... |
Interesting replies to this thread! I ALWAYS call them "Yorkies" or "guys" when calling or referring to them in front of others. But when its just in the family, I end up calling them "babies" a lot. I never planned on that, it just sort of evolved. The important thing is to BE CONSISTANT when calling them (I am trying to improve in this department myself). My Yorkies sometimes don't come when I call them, so a couple nights ago when calling them to bed, I howled like a wolf and boy did they come running to me! I guess they still have a lot of wolf in them...:D |

I cannot think of my baby as a dog either. I usually call all dogs "pups" no matter how old they are. I might ask a friend with dogs, "How are the pups"? |
To me, Snoopy is a puppy or a baby. I'm so glad he'll stay little, and not get big and move away like my other kids! When Snoopy's littermate comes to visit, they are "the boys". I think Snoopy thinks we are funny looking dogs with no fur on our faces...! |
