Uff... finally able to create a new post - Adding to the family?!? Hello guys, I am new here - I had such a hard time to creat a new thread :D. I have a wonderful baby boy - Ike. He jsut turned 5 months old and he is very smart, loving, and handsome. He is my first dog and I am loving being a "mom". He is very spoiled and loved. I was thinking about getting a little girl. My friends are trying to talk me out of it. They say one is enough and I should not get a second dog since it is too much work. I do not have kids, it is just my husband and I for right now. They say once we decide to have human babies things are going be out of control. My question is: How hard is to take care of 2 yorkies? I so want another one.... :aimeeyork |
Hi Juliana and welcome to Yorkietalk! I just have one but I've also thought about getting another. My children are grown so future children aren't an issue. I take Sadie to obedience classes and I talked to my teacher about it. She suggested waiting till Sadie was well trained in obedience and then I could use her to help me train the puppy. If I get another one I think I'm going to do it that way. Part of me would love to have another one and also for Sadie to have a playmate. Another part of me loves the close relationship I have with her and I'm not sure I want to share my love or hers. As long as I feel that way, I'm not going to jump in and get another one. I think there's pro's and con's and you are the only one that can decide what is right for you. Good luck!! |
Here are the issues with adding a new puppy: 1. Can you afford the extra financial burden? You have to think about more than just the purchase price of the dog, but food, veterinary care (the most expensive) and many other factors. 2. Travelling- it is a bit more difficult to take two puppies somewhere compared to one. 3. Training- are you ready to potty train two at once? haha... Also obedience and other training is essential as well. 4. Love- are you ready for twice the love and puppy kisses?! :p I hope to add a second dog once we move into a house. I personally like the idea of having a completely trained dog before I add a second... but many people say having two is not much more difficult than one :D Good luck in your decision! |
I have 3 and my 4th passed away earlier this year. I always had one at a time until 4 years ago then I added a 2nd then 1 1/2 years later a 3rd then the 4th 1 1/2 yeas ago. I am retired so I have the time, I have insurance on them for extraordinary expenses and they love each other. So if you have the time and can financially afford 2 go for it! |
