Question about being hyper Taffy just turned one a couple of weeks ago. Since this is our first Yorkie, I guess I need some assurance that personality changes are normal. (No changes in eating, etc.) Two other factors besides her age may be affecting her: (1) It is bitterly cold here and (2) We just returned from a 2-week holiday with her where she was the center of our universe 24/7...even more so than usual. The change is that she's not as hyper as she was. In fact, she's turned into a major little cuddle-bug. It's really quite special but a bit out of character for her and I don't know if it's normal or she's sad about something (if that makes any sense). We are back to our home retirement routine and although we are with her 24/7, our total attention is not focused on her as it was on vacation. (Plus, both of us are experiencing some health issues that have temporarily slowed us down...could that be a factor, too?) The cutest thing she's started doing before she settles down to cuddle is to get her face about 3 inches from our faces and cocks her head as if to ask if we're okay. She just seems so much older in the last two weeks. (She was spayed in October in case that's relevant.) When we play her favorite games with her, she's just as energetic and lively as ever. I guess I'm just being an anxious mama. |
It sounds like your little girl is just growing up. It is only natural for them to settle down as they get older. I think having her spayed could be contributed to some of her calmer behavior. I pray your health issues are nothing serious and you both do well in the future. Just enjoy your little cuddle bug.:) |
I think the effects of the spaying her age and the fact that you returned from vacation and you're home again to your old routine are doing it But if you're concerned have a vet just check her out |
Jackson began this at around 1 year of age as well. He was never really a cuddlebug and he started laying with me more on the couch while watching TV, and snuggling more and calming down more. He's still got a lot of energy but when we're inside just chilling... he's really laid back. I mean, he was always an easy puppy but he just became more so after turning 1! |
Its pretty funny that you ask this, because I was wondering the same thing a few weeks ago... the weather here is so cold we have tons of snow so we are not out and about as often as before, my daughter said, mom they are just like Us, when its cold , rainy and crappy out , they do the same thing as us, just rest and lay around.. Laci just turned 1 too on Dec 5th, and I see some changes in her as well.. although she is always up for a game of ball , she does sleep and rest more often!!! |

Spaying Rio did not change her hyperness one bit - she still runs circles in our living room every night at full speed. We call it the Rio 500. |
Hope you are both feeling better. It could be a combination of her getting older and worn out from her trip. I just had a foster puppy for almost a month and she kept my girls so busy. Then when she was adopted New Year's Eve my 3 only get up to eat they are so worn out!!lol |
Thanks for the responses. She still has her zoomie moments and loves fetch and her other games but she is so cuddly lately. We're enjoying her snuggling but it's just different. I was a bit concerned but figured it might be a stage of growing up. I knew you guys with more experience would know if it was normal. I just love being able to come on Yorkietalk for answers instead of being a Nervous Nellie at the vet's office all the time. |

but to answer your question, yes Uni has calmed down a lot too since she was a puppy. |

OMG! Your Little one is just the cutest! What A sweet little face! Oh, I think when they get older... they learn to appreciate the benefits of napping. Especially after exercising... and maybe a treat or two! :D |
