How do you know for sure? I've been thinking about getting a 2nd yorkie for a while. How do you know when you're for sure ready to get another one? My main concern and hesitation is going through the puppy stage of biting, chewing, potty training, etc. Please give your thoughts. Thanks! |

I think when you have the first one done with basic training, and done or almost done with potty training then it would be a good time to get another. I would not want to try to house break 2 yorkies at the same time. If you aren't a big fan of the puppy stage you could adopt an older puppy or a retired breeder, or a rescue. I got Maddie when she was about 5months old and she was really easy to potty train, the breeder had done alot of the work for me:) She also wasn't teething her baby teeth were already in, she also was aware of doors and feet which was nice. Some breeders hold dogs longer for evaluation, or if they are on the smaller side. This would give you the opportunity to get a dog that is beyond the "puppy" stage but still very young and playfull. |
I opted to get an older yorkie. I got a 1 yr old male and I already had a 1 yr old female. They are best buddies, he's been here for a week now! He's already potty trained, neutered and passed the chewing stage :) |

My first one is 100% potty trained (with the exception of a little excitement dots). Maybe, I should look into one thats about a yr or 2 old, I still want it to be playful with my 1 year old. |

I didn't think that I would want a second. Didn't think that I could love another as much as I love my Gracie Belle. She is 9 months old. Toyed with the idea of a second and then would give up on it. Strange but a few weeks ago I decided I was ready. We found a pup that was ready to go home and in a matter of a few days I was a new mom again. Couldn't be happier. Gracie and Bristol are 6 months apart. |

I know Gracie was really past so many of the puppy things. She went to bed when we went to bed-crawled under the covers and slept to morning usually. But it is ALL worth it. So glad that we did it when we did and that we got the precious little pup that we did. She sleeps with us part of the night and in her playpen too. Never cries at all and she is so good about using her potty pad! Couldn't ask for a better baby girl. |
Ok, I just decided that it's all worth it in the long run. It may even be easier because he has someone to burn his energy off with. |

When you feel the time is right you just know. It's something you feel and can't resist. When I wanted my 2nd yorkie i knew right away. I remember thinking, i cant wait i want her now!! lol |
I'm waiting to find "the one" when it comes to getting my 2nd dog... no matter how long it takes. It's so hard to resist seeing so many people on here getting a new puppy or a new dog, etc, but I've decided I'm in no rush and I'm not worried about Jackson, he would love a friend... so I think I will just KNOW when that one comes around. |
