4 year old girl in new home My friend bought a 4 year old girl from a breeder. They now breed Brewers I think that is the name and needed to find a home for DayZee. She is 12 lbs. She was use to a dog door, so house breaking her was very difficult. The new owner is 82 years old and, I think gives into her to much. Lately, when left alone in the house, she says she is very upset when she arrives home. She takes her most places she goes. Now, of late, she is having panic attacks when put in her carrier at night. She has had the same carrier all her life. My friend has had her about 5 months. When she stays with me, I have none of these problems. I do have an old Terrier mix. The do not play, but, seem to "get along" When trying to house break here she would poop on the carpet right after being out in the yard and on a long walk. I think my friend is to easy on her. I have had and trained many dog, and when she is with me there are no "accidents" or "seperation" attacks. What is your read on this? |
I think that you have summed up the problem very well. The new owner is too lienent with this little girl. We all know how quickly these little Yorkies will take over if they are allowed to. Perhaps you could spend a little time with your friend helping her institute a routine of a few minutes per day of basic obedience training, just sit, stay, come, things like that, so the little munchkin learns that the new owner is the pack leader. And the new owner learns to take the dominante roll. Both the owner and the little one will be happier once the owner has taken over a leadership roll. |
