How Do You Get Your Yorkie To Sleep In Their Bed?? Coco only will sleep in her bed at night and thats when I'm in my bed. But I go to peoples houses that have other dogs and their dog will go and sleep on their bed in the corner or another room somewhere while their owner is watching tv or hanging out or whatver. If I am not in my bed and am just on the couch coco comes right on top of my arm or leg or whatever and goes to sleep. I don't mind when she does it when I'm home alone but when there is company or I have a friend of the opposite sex over and we are just watching a move cuddling or whatever the last thing he wants is a dog on his lap sleeping. LOL..... Also I had a friend come over to my house to use the computer and she said she was trying to but coco just kept sleeping right on her arm and she ended up having to put her in another room so she could work. How do you get your dog to do their own thing sometimes? Is this just really common with this breed to always be under you no matter what? |
Get another dog My feelings get hurt sometimes because Dublin prefers the dogs to me. Even when they are ignoring him - which is most of the time!! He wants to be wherever they are and follows THEM from room to room! I only get him when he's tired or hungry! |

LOL, How true!!! :) :) :) :) |
It's very common , they want to be with you at all times. If I'm not holding Princess, she's sleeping, or with one of the kids. :) |
Had the same problem: Put his bed at my feet :) |

Yeh, if they aren't trained to stay off the furniture when a puppy, then it's too late. If I put might night night, I have to leave the room. Otherwise, they will want to be with me, real close. |
Porscha is the same way, like right now she is on my lap sleeping (luckily I have a lap top) but she always has to be right on top of me. The only time she goes to any of her many beds is when I am in bed and I wont let her up! |
I really don't mind having Bo laying beside me all the time. He's the first dog we've ever let up on the furniture and he's such a snuggler. |

I'm so glad to hear that it's not just my dog!!! Sometimes he drives me crazy, but I guess it's the breed. My inlaws have a yorkie that doesn't do it though and that is what we thought we were getting when we bought a yorkie, guess her's is an oddball! Hers don't run away, don't pester you to death, she's very quiet..... oh well.... I'm hoping training classes will help him understand what I want him to do and I'll understand him!!! :animal36 |
Okay Maximus USED to sleep with me, so maybe I can help you on this...I started with bringing his bed into the bedroom and going to bed like normal..I laid on the edge and the other is pushed against the wall..when he tried to jump up I sprayed him and put him vback in his bed (which I lined with a giant fluffy blankie he loves), he cried and whined for that night, the folowwing night for not as long and after 2 days he went automatically...then about a week later he slept in the living room and I decided that that would be his space..so I go to sleep give him a kiss and he sleeps on on the the couches in a big blanket and surprisingly he never mad ea peep n that transition |
