i need some help on food? the weather outsides todays kind of nasty and very slippery i get coby wellness, but due to the weather i had to pick him up food , close to home i didnt make it to petco, the roads are nasty , i got purina little bites big nutririon & taste, for him is this ok? hes 6 months old |
I know some people would say to never feed a Purina food because it isn't a good food but...if it's in a pinch and there is nothing else to feed I guess you have to use something. Do you have chicken breast and rice or lean hamburger? Maybe you could feed that for supper with some green beans and carrots mixed in and go get the Wellness tomorrow when the roads are better. I drive 36 miles one way to get the food I feed my dogs so even if I'm not low and I'm going to that town I pick up a new bag to keep in the pantry...especially in the winter because you just never know. |
I too would just make up some boiled chicken and rice, along with some veggies and fruit. Lots better than the Purina junk. |
I think it would be okay only if it's just for now. I brought Brandi to Nashville with me and she ran out of food because I ended up staying longer than I anticipated. Anyway I went to several different stores trying to find her food. She eats Canidies Chicken and Rice. Well I couldn't find her food so I ended buying her Natural Choice with Chicken, rice and oatmeal. I just knew she was going to have diarrhea but she didn't. I guess the oatmeal help to soothe her stomach. She loved it and I think I will probably keep her on it when I get home. |

cleaner after my car was sliding into the street, i had to put the car in park it was scary i dont dear trying again today.. but good idea i will pick up and extra bag when i go tomorrow.. |
I've never used chicken from a can but if it's boneless, skinnless, chicken breast I guess it would be o.k. You can mix some green bean pieces and/or carrots in with the rice and chicken...mine love green beans and carrots. The chicken and rice won't upset Coby's stomach like a different dried food will. |

I would imagine chicken in a can would have too much sodium. I may be wrong though. |

I'm a big fan of Wellness. I've never fed Purina. There's been many of great dogs of the past & present that have done great on it. I feel we are over stimulated by the marketing & have bought into the "human ingredient" theory that dogs just do not need. As far as cooking for a yorkie, a puppy especially. Well, there are many vitamins & nutrients missing. Which is better or worst? I cannot say. If one is to cook, there must be topped w/ supplements. So the question is, how long is the cooked meal? I know this goes against the other posts supporting comments. But it's a healthy puppy that has a lot of needs. Dog food companies for better & worst studies these things and again, there is a prove record of years & years of successes. What did Cede Higgins eat? There's breed after breed. I hate corn & all of the other junk. But, what do you do? I will say. I know that Purina One is better than the others. Pro Plan has many believers. I don't feed either. But I don't feel a home a puppy will thrive on home cooked chicken & rice alone. They will love it. But they need more for more than a couple of days. Kudus to you for caring so much about your yorkie! It's never easy. |
Elle...the chicken and rice is just for tonight so she can get to the store tomorrow...not for a long term diet. |
just feed it, after all it is a dog, remember....sorry couln't help myself, forgive me! Don't make the poor girl think she should go out and get killed on a slippery road to go get dog food, I would feed mine the purina and go on with it! |

I'd feed the Purina for now. It won't kill him to eat it for a day or so. |

I don't think anyone is telling her to go out in the weather and get the Wellness food, we are just giving her suggestions on other foods she might have around the house that would be better than feeding Purina junk! |

If you don't have chicken, you can use boiled egg, lean beef, or fish mixed with rice, potato, or pasta :) I'd stay away from the chicken in a can, too much sodium. You must have eggs in the fridge? Just do eggs and rice. He will LOVE IT! |
