Almost a trip to the Vets!! Has your Yorkie ever done this?? Last night after dinner I cleaned up the dishes and set the oven cleaner and now it’s almost 7 pm so my husband and I sat down to watch TV when Max came up on my lap and was shaking so bad. Now he wasn’t cold because he now is panting too. My husband now said OMG what is wrong with him?! I’m looking at his gums and they are pink, he is looking at me as he knows who I am so I don’t think he is having a seizure but I don’t know, so my husband is on the phone trying to get our Vet, but just their answering machine comes on. So I take him into our bedroom because I keep the door closed and you can’t smell the oven and he starts to calm down. The smell of the oven cleaning got him that upset? I’ve never seen anything like it. I would have felt like a fool because we were getting ready to rush to the vets. Do others get upset with smells? |
I'm not sure but my vet told me before that even them "breathing" chemicals in can cause them harm. So it is possible it was not sitting well with him. |
Chloe absolutely hates when I put lotion on she gets really mad at me and makes a sneeze noise over and over again at me (not a real sneeze) and rubs her feet on the ground, after that she will run away from me. The same if I use hair spray. |
The beagle we use to have would jump in my lap and tremble the whole time the self-cleaning oven was being cleaned. I always assumed it was because he related it to a fire. Poor babies. |
Mine Too I used some new hand lotion yesterday and this morning that "Santa" brought me and it smells like cocoa butter and when I came downstairs to take him out before I left for work he came over to me and as I was about to scoop him up he went NUTS! He started barking at me like he didn't know me - I thought he was just being weird - but it's happened 2 days in a row ....must be the lotion - I thought it was a fluke - but I guess not. |

Sophie absolutely adores the lotions I put on. She starts licking me all over my legs and feet so I have to close the bedroom door until I'm fully dressed or she'll lick it all off  |
Are you talking about a self cleaning oven? That's really strange! I'm glad he's ok. :) |
My Poohpie would go hide in the bath tube when we used the self cleaner on the stove AND she would hide in the bath tube if I chewed gum!...LOL She was a silly girl. I'm not sure how Bella is going to react to that stuff, we have not had her long enough. |
Bailey HATES it when I use my hairspray, however he can't stand to be more than a foot away from me so he stays by me... lol |

You need to be careful when using the self-clean cycle on a self-cleaning oven around pets. The fumes can be toxic to them. Birds have been known to die from it, and the smaller the pet, the more difficult it can be for them to handle. There is some info on it if you google it. |

Our little Skeeter wasn't afraid of the oven cleaning itself until I turned on the whole-house fan and he was standing right under it. He jumped about a foot in the air and went to hide behind the toilet. LOL. Now whenever we broil steak he goes and hides too. Poor little guy. He is a fearful fat puppy. |
I am so glad I found this thread. I am having the same problem with Maybelline. I started the self-cleaning oven cycle about two hours ago and Maybelline is panting and anxious ever since. I was sure if this had happened to someone else it would be on YT. I have cracked the patio door that is fully enclosed and now she is going in and out it seems to get a breath of fresh air. Thanks everyone for sharing; it is so helpful and preventing trips to the ER! |
