Thinking about getting another furbaby? Well I have been thinking about expanding our family with another furbaby and I was wanting everyone's opinion on to either get a boy or a girl? I already have a boy and he is neutored. I am not interested in mating I just want another sibling for him, I just don't know if a better pair would be a female or a male? I know with male's there is sometimes that ALPHA MALE thing, but I wasn't sure if there is a big deal among yorkies... OPINIONS PLEASE~~~:) |
You can actually have the ALPHA Female as well. I've heard that the females can be even worse than the males :) I think it really depends on the dog's personality. I have three females now and I knew when I was adding to my family that my first already had an ALPHA personality. Luckily things are working out well...provided that the alpha dog always gets attention first or she will growl at our latest additions for a few minutes. |
What is an alpha dog? |
Since you have a boy, I think is time to try for a girl:D;) |
I don't know the offical definition of the alpha dog but basically its something like the head dog of the house hold. My first yorkie has always had a very dominant personality and I thought she may end up being the alpha dog when i brought home the two puppies and she has definitely taken that role. She is the Queen of this yorkie house hold. Leader of the pack :-) If you end up with two dogs that have very strong domaneering personalities (who each want to be THE alpha dog) than they may have issues getting along. Unfortunately my friend ran into this and ended up giving one of her dogs away after months of trying to get them to get along. They were actually being very mean to each other and purposely trying to cause each other harm. :( |
Thanks for explaining it. My husband and I have been using the term "dominating" in reference to deciding who will be the dominating (now alpha) dog in this household. Speedy has been with us since she was 16 weeks old and is now three (tomorrow) and we've only had Toby for a month. But these little yorkies think they are big dogs! So far they have taken turns putting each other in their place and then the next minute they are playing together and sleeping next to each other. So I really don't know who will be the alpha dog in this household. |
