Just saying hello :) Hello Everyone! My name is Sarah and I just joined YT. I am from North East Tennessee. Molly is my Yorkie. She is 2 years old and I just adopted her from a family who could no longer keep her. I am totally in love! She is so different than any of my other dogs. She is already my little shadow. She is getting along famously with my other pets and just fits in great! I will also mention my other pets are Toby a 2 y/o Pom mix, Rachel a 10 y/o Collie, and Mr. Beasley a 4 y/o Persian. Molly has her first vet app. next week. She is up to date on everything but I am worried because she seems very underweight. She has been on crap food so I am guessing this accounts for some of it. Does anyone have any tips (food suggestions homemade or bagged either is fine I am willing to do whatever it takes) to help her get some healthy weight put on? When I feel her I can feel pretty much all the bones along her back and can see her hip bones. She was eating a Food City take off of Kibbles and Bits (I know I know TERRIBLE). I have only had her for a couple of days so have not switched her food just yet because I wanted to get some guidance on what would be best to switch her too considering I have heard to Yorkies can be very sensitive to protein and such. Any help would be much appreciated! Anyway I really look forward to getting to know everyone here! If anyone has any insight into how I can help Miss Molly please get in touch with me. PS: I will add some pictures later tonight. :aimeeyork |
Hi and welcome to YT!!!! We are neighbors! :D I feed mine Taste of the Wild and they have done GREAT on it. |
Thank you!!! Which formula of the TOW do you feed your babies? Yes how exciting we are neighbors!!! |
royal canine I feed mine royal canine and welcome my baby loves this eats very well and is gaining good weight...how much does your 2 year old weigh? |
Molly weighs just a little under 4 pounds. Her vet records show she weighed 4 pounds in July. |

Thank you so much! I will be looking into this because it is very easy for me to get. Other foods I have been having to drive to Johnson City to get. Do you add anything else to their diet other than this? |
Pictures of Molly! 3 Attachment(s) Here are the pictures of Molly as promised :D The first is her the day I first got her before I groomed her. The second is after I tried my hand at grooming her lol. The other doggy in the picture with her is Toby my other doggy. He is a pom mix. He came from a very sad situation. His old owner was a drug addict. He was skinny matted and nasty when I bought him from her. She worked at a local call center and had lost her home. Well anyway after a long drawn out process of her trying to get him back after I paid her for him he finally is safe from her forever. She was a loon let me tell ya. She said I could not take him out on a leash.... "the hawks would get him". This is why she claimed he was never house trained. She refused to feed him dog food so she fed him canned cat food & table scraps. Needless to say he has a very sensitive tummy now. Within one week Toby was crate trained and goes outside with my Collie like a champ ;). This little boy is my world let me tell ya. He just broke my heart when I saw how badly he was being cared for. Please excuse the shaved nose haha I groomed her and thought that was how it was supposed to be done  silly me. The last picture is just one I took of her outside after we got her a harness. She was being dragged on a collar and the poor little thing would cough every single time they tugged. Poor girl :( Again... ignore the grooming job lol it was my first attempt at doing more than a lion cut on my persian. |
Welcome.....I think so looks beautiful, very good 1st time grooming job! What a lucky girlie she is now!! |
haha thanks so much for the compliment you are very kind :D |
Hi and welcome to YT. You'll definitely learn a lot on here. There are lots of different ideas on food. I feed Natural Balance Rolls. This seems the only food that my 2 consistently eat. Molly is very lucky to have found you. :) |
Welcome to YT!! Congrats on Molly - she is beautiful!! |
Hello and welcome to YT. Molly is beautiful!:) |
Congratulations and Welcome to Yorkie Talk! |
Hello Sarah and babies!!!! Your pups are so beautiful! You did a great job on her grooming. I feed Barley (my 2 yo) Evo and I'm switching Bijou (6 mth) from Innova to Wellness. I got Barley from a rescue group in February. He was skin and bones when I got him. I started him on the Evo and it's amazing how night and day he is. I do mix some canned food in with their food in the evenings just to mix up what they eat so they don't get bored with it. I hope your enjoying the site. We have such wonderful yorkie lovers!!!! |
First of all thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I really appreciate all of the compliments! Mom to Hot Rod- can you tell me a little more about the natural balance rolls? How they are fed & stored? Which formula yours like best? Gennie- Toby my little boy has a very sensitive stomach and had trouble with EVO & Innova. Any tips on getting his belly to accept this high protein food? I have heard it is the best. Then again I have also heard Orijjen is the very best available. Dog food confuses me! I want to do what is best for my babies but I never know which way to turn ha ha. TOW seems like a good food but then I heard it was made by Diamond which is not as high quality as some of the other foods??? My head spins every time I try to figure out what is best for them. Toby makes it tough... ideally I would like to find a food they both can eat and be healthy on but Toby has such problems with food that it makes it very hard. He gets explosive diarrhea if his stomach does not agree with something. The vet says he is healthy and sees no problems but something just can't be right when he is doing that. I really believe it is because of the poor diet he was fed in the past. The vet wanted me to put him on science diet which I refused because I know it is not a healthy food. Toby has no other problems at all. If you can shed any light on this subject I would really appreciate it. It has my mind running in circles lol. |
Perrella- I thought I would also say your baby in your icon is SO pretty! What breeder did she come from? WV is not too far from me. If I ever get another Yorkie (which seems very likely considering how much I love little Molly already) I would love to find one as pretty as your baby. |
Hi and welcome to YT you have beautiful babies, I free feed all of mine Eukanuba and have used it for several years & have very healthy furbuts I think dogs are like people what works for one don't always work for another, just try small bags until you find the right one. :) |
Thank you Micah_my_love I think I am going to try just getting a couple of small bags and try out and see how they do. |
Hi there and welcome to YT! As far as food goes I think it will depend on what your pup will ultimately like, but whichever food you choose (Eukanuba for puppies/toy breeds is good!), try mixing it with whatever food she was on, that way she adjusts to the taste without any problems. Good luck and talk to you soon! :D |
