Badly bred? 1 Attachment(s) When we got our first yorkie, Gigi, last December at 12 weeks I didn't know much about the actual breed. I just knew I wanted one and would do anything to get one! We originally tried to go through a pet store because of all the "perks" that came with it. My husband couldn't see paying more than $2,000 for a dog though... We came home, looked at the classifieds in the paper, and found a little girl that fit our budget. The next day Gigi came home with us. Once Gigi lost her milk teeth we noticed she had a "snaggletooth" on the right side of her mouth... We just thought it was cute! Now at almost 16 months old Gigi is losing her adult teeth... We brush them and give her treats that are supposed to help clean them, but they're in horrible condition! We also noticed she has very tiny fragile bones compared to our other yorkie who is 1 pound smaller. If Gigi was badly bred how would that affect her lifespan? I don't know what I would do without her... She was mine and my husband's first dog. |
What a pretty girl she is. I wish I had advice or insight for you, but I don't. I know others will be able to help you though. |
There really is no way to know what to expect of her lifespan without knowing specifically any problems she may have. At 16 months I would think she should already have all her adult teeth. And she does seem very young to already be having teeth issues. The good thing is that she can eat soft food if her teeth continue to deteriorate. Other than that, you will have to face any other problems as they arise, and there may not be any others. At least, that is what we are hoping and praying for. On the flip side, I had a little dog that got hit by a car when she was only 10 months old. It messed up her quality of life forever until we finally had to have her euthanized at 10 years old due to her injuries as a puppy. My point though, is just to show you that even healthy babies can take a turn for the worse at a drop of a dime. Cherish the moments and don't worry about what is to come until that day comes. Has your baby seen a vet recently? |
Not much you can do now but hope for the best. The one thing you can do is get pet insurance just for her. If you think she is poorly bred, it could mean her needing a lot of medical attention later on. |
