Airplane rides in the cabin! Any tips for a lil Yorkie? I'm SO nervous that something will happen and Lillie won't get to come with us. American Airlines is SO strict with their pet policy (understandable) but I need to make sure I get the right carrier for her...anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Also, I know she will be one nervous little bug and someone told me to slip her 1/2 a benedryl...that makes ME nervous I don't ever give her anything foreign so maybe I'll check with the vet. Anyone ever travel with their furkids? |

I dont know when you are traveling, but if you have time, I would try the benadryl one day before you go... this will put your mind at ease because while you are on the ground and close to a vet you will know how she reacts. We have flown with dogs in cabin many times and it is always very smooth, all will be fine :thumbup::thumbup: |
I haven't travel with Ares yet (being married to a Marine I'm sure we will soon) but When we were going to fly with our boxer the airline told us if he was a dog who has seizures he could fly in cabin for free. We ended up driving so the only thing I would suggest is go online and/ or to pet store for an airline approved carrier, puppy pads, and toys. Oh bully sticks also... check with your vet in regards to the benedryl. I hope your flight goes well!:) |

No need for Benadryl, once the plane is airborn they sleep and I've taken a 6 month old pup to NY from Texas. The only problem is to make sure that you potty your pup. Take baby wipes for accidents, a pee pad, bottled water. Harness and Leash so when you get off the plane the pup can potty. My boys I usually put a belly band on them. My girls I usually take them to the bathroom and put down a potty pad. |
Thank you! I did fly American Airlines and they were AMAZING! They just LOVED Lillie--the agents were sooo sweet! We bought Lillie a Sherpa bag (pricey but worth it---I think she likes that thing more than her kennel ;) ) She did GREAT! She never fussed in the airports, she never gave us any indication she was uncomfortable, and she slept the whole time on the plane. I swear I LOVE my dog---she is just a little angel! I will bring her with me from now on---where every my little feet go, hers go too! =) Thanks everyone! |
Glad to Hear The Flight Went Well We too, love flying with Bella. She never makes a peep and seems very comfortable and sleeps the entire flight. |
I have had 2 yorkies, Tinkerbelle was THE most horrendous traveller in the car - we put her in our little plane and she was good as gold. I kid you not, she would literally go crazy in the car, even for short journeys. We drove 6 hours to cornwall once and she whined and cried the WHOLE way...plane, nothing! But I never flew commercial... Bluebelle is totally different, loves the car! But is also good as gold in the plane.... Hope yours surprises you as much as ours did - I'm sure it will be a dream!
