Mickeys_Mom | 12-23-2009 07:44 PM | Introducing Mickey and Mom A few months ago I told my daughter that in the spring I would fulfill a long dream and find a Yorkie. Well, she found 1.5 year old Mickey in Colorado, she and her spouse traveled an hour and a half to meet him...all 5 pounds of him and he was perfect! Mickeys former mom was moving and could not keep him but best of all, she would be traveling through Albuquerque and would bring him to me.
Mickey has been here for three days now and is a delight. He needs work, his coat has been roughly chopped up where they were obviously cutting out matts, he smelled vile and other than house breaking (no small feat from what I have read here), he has had no basic training. I spent the entire afternoon bathing and grooming, and he'll be gorgeous in a few months.
Mickey has become my shadow and tries to "protect" me from his new brother, 47 pound Corky (Corgi/Heeler), who just looks at him as if to say "Get real, Short Stuff". Corky helped raise my daughter's Beagle when she lived with me while her husband was deployed, so I have no worries about Corky getting too rough.
I'm slowly changing his diet, he's been on Purina Puppy Chow...no more needs to be said about that!
But I'm thrilled with this little bundle of joy, he has a sweet loving temperment (except for occasional sibling rivalry) and I foresee many years of fun as he adjusts and learns to play.
While waiting for Mickey, I have poured through the pages here and have learned much about the Yorkie breed that was new to me. Thanks to everyone here for sharing their expertise.
Sorry, I ramble too much. Will post pics soon! |
