Scared me toooo Death last night... Last night we were sitting in the living room watching t.v. All of a sudden I hear Roxie literally screaming in pain. She gets this wild hair when the cat comes in the room sometimes and flies out after him (mostly it's all how they play). She got her foot tangled in the throw that was on the back of the couch and caused her land wrong I guess. Not really sure what she hurt since I didn't see it happen. By the sound of her I thought she was going to die on me or have to rush off to the E.R. I'm in tears instantly and my hubby was to her before me. Her eyes were all squinty and obviously she was hurting. We consoled her and she calmed down. (Hubby thought maybe it knocked the wind out of her since nothing is broken). After about 20 minutes my son felt bad for her and got her a treat. She gobbled it up. I stayed up half the night with her keeping an eye on her. Today she is back to her rippy rammy self and I don't want her to do anything it scared me so bad. I feel so lucky and blessed today that she's ok. It's a reminder of how much you can't imagine your life without them in it. I really don't like it when she rips around like this but she won't stop it. Today I'm putting pillows down around things to cushion her if she does it again. Has anyone had any luck training them not to jump off of things like this? |
That's so scary. I wonder if maybe she got a dew claw stuck in the blanket? I'm glad she's okay though. |
She may have scared herself. Or caught a toe nail... Did she scream for long, or just a quick yelp? My dogs dog 10 years yelps when you touch her, if she doesn't see you! lol She sounds like you kicked her... Sometimes a scare is "self-correcting", for jumping, my big boy won't come down the stairs, cuz I never let him when he was smaller.I haven't had much luch teaching the older dogs, that I don't want them jumping up or down though! Still a work in progress... |
I am like you. It scares me terribly when they get the rippen zoom zooms! I am scared they are going to hurt themselves, but I can't stop them from doing it. Silly dogs. Don't they know it raises our blood pressure when they do these things? |
aww your so caring putting pillows everywere. that is so cute. I am happy to hear she is ok though. Have a Merry Christmas :) |
Glad she is ok. I have trained mine to use a ramp by the beds and we have a footstool by the couch that they use to get up and down. It usually only takes me a few hours to train them when they first come in. I did the same with the foster pom I have and by the 2nd day she was running up and down the ramp and using the footstool. It may be harder to train when she is use to jumping, but worth a try. |
Thanks for the replies. I feel better knowing that it happens to others sometimes and not just to us. It wasn't a short yelp, it was a very long on-going thing till we got to her. Hubby started feeling all over her body to see if he could feel anything out of place. Then I held her for awhile before I put her down to make sure she was walking ok and she was. She always licks my hubby and he put his face up to hers, talking to her and all she did was one little lick. When she started licking his face and ears a little bit later I took it as a good sign that she was feeling better. I don't think I can bear it if anything happens to her. She's the light in our lives, even when things have been stressful she manages to make us smile. Thanks to all of you for giving me a place to go where people understand how you feel when something happens. Merry Christmas All!! :xmastree1::santasmile::reindeer2: |

I know what you mean when you hear them yelp! For that nano second your heartbeat spots in your chest. Sophie jumps from the sofa and bed. I bought stairs but she will only use them to go up. not down. Still working on her ;) |

That was quite a scare. I am glad you were there to help right away. Happy to hear your pup is okay. |
Aww ... so glad the little one is alright Yes, they do get themselves into trouble sometimes and thank goodness for the most part they are pretty resilient A few months ago my Zach was playing with his brother and jumped off my bed He does this a thousand times a day but this time he landed on his side and hit his "elbow" on the hard floor I even heard the thud And He Screamed .... again and again I scooped him up thinkiing that I was going to be rushing my dog to the vet for a casting He had his eyes closed tight and was shivering I touched and touched trying to find where the injury was and nothing within ten mins he was running and jumping like nothing even happened Goes to show .... in the blink of an eye |
