Need info on floppy ear, please
 

Betty Boop (The Boopster) is only six months old and is teething. Is it true that ears go back and forth during teething?

I know there are quite a few people on this site that have Yorkies with one floppy ear. My Betty Boop (The Boopster) has one straight ear and one ear that has been taped 3 times now. The first time it was taped by the vet it, it remained straight for about a month. The second time the vet taped it, it only lasted a day. She is now taped for the third time. The vet told me yesterday that I might just have to give up the taping and accept my dog as she is. She can hold it straight when she wants to but then always drops it. One vet taped it the shape of the ear. His partner taped it by folding it.

I will always love my Boopster any way she turns out and will always think that the stars and sun shine only for her, but I sure would like to have both ears straight.

Our Skittles' ears never stood up (he is 7 now). His half-brother is the same way. However, our Sara (aged a little over 2) has both ears standing up.

What's wrong with floppy ears!?
 

Not to be rude or anything, but floppy ears!? BIG DEAL!!!!!! Fiona is 22 months old, and her ears are floppy as anything, and I wouldnt want it any other way! I love it! :):)

When we got Kona last August (she was 7) I didn't even notice that her ears weren't standing up! She is adorable with floppy ears. My parent's recently rehomed an 11 month old and her ears are up. My mom keeps holding them down just to see what she would look like with floppy ears because she likes Kona's so much.

You can learn to tape yourself, and do it please !!!!!
All the calcium is being used in the teeth ... and the ears flop. But persevere!

Jake is 5 months now and I hope his ears never stand up...his floppy ears are so cute and i love them and everone comments on them :D

Hi I would just like to say that yes I am sure that everyone would love their yorkie no matter what with or without floppy ears BUT I too had this problem.
My yorkie izzy ears stood when I got her at SIX months but then she started teething and they flopped over. Every once in a while she would let one up. I didnt realize that I needed to get them tipped (shaved) until waaayyy late. So...when she was about a yr I started getting them tipped, or so I thought. The groomer only shaved a tiny part of the ear. So they still wouldnt stand. I thought I would have to get them to stand by taping them or something but then someone told me that It was too late she was one yrs old and they would never stand. So I never had them taped. And I just gave up and said that my pup would just have floppy ears.:animal36:(
THEN low and behold one day took her to the groomer...now keep in mind she is now one yrs and a few months old, and I asked the groomer to shave her ears further down...like basically halfway down her ear. AND like a week later her ears started to stand and they have been standing every since. :aimeeyork:eek:
NOW she will be two next month! Still standing!
So dont give up. after she stopped teething if you get them shaved correctly...the entire top half of the ear they may just stand up like my izzy's did:D:D

My Jimi has floppy ears and I think it is adorable. Personally, I wouldn't try to change it. Some people on YT have a baby with one ear up and one down and I think that is so cute too! :)

I got my mom a yorkie back in March and she actually lets his hair on his ears grow long because she likes the floppy ear look... lol... my sweet Darcy looks very cute with her ears standing straight up, but I don't think I'd care if they were floppy! :)

I know how you feel. When I first got Chase, I was obsessed with taping his ears and tracking his growth rate. As time passes, you'll realize none of it matters. Chase has floppy ears and is 9lbs and I think he's absolutely perfect.

Maybe give it another shot and see if it will stand if it bothers you... I'm sure your baby will look cute either way :).

We love our yorkies no matter what they look like but having floppy ears does add the problem with air flow into the ears and possible future problems from ears that are too moist. It's a breeding ground for bacteria and yeast. Most drop eared dogs have a problem with this. Even using ear powder can cause problems as I recently found out. I took a girl to the vet that kept shaking. Not just her head but her whole body like she was cold or in pain. The vet didn't find anything immediately wrong with her but as we continued to talk he had a thought and looked deep in her ears. He asked if I used powder in her ears and I said yes. He said that sometimes the powder gets down deep and when it gets wet, if they can't shake it out the powder will turn it a cement like materiel. They took her into the back and deep cleaned her ears to get the "cement" out and she hasn't shaken since. That was as eye opener for me. Don't get me wrong, I check their ears all the time. There was no ear ickies so I thought everything was fine. Well, nothing was getting past the dried powder so it all looked fine but wasn't. Anyhow, it will be a bigger challenge to keep the ears dry if she had drop ears. If you can get the ears up, there wouldn't be as much a problem with this.
