Bad Dreams? I think Oliver has been having some pretty bad nightmares lately. He twitches and whines and moans and last night his breathing was erratic. Then when I touch him to wake him up, he growls, and once he sees it's me he jumps into my arms and shivers and shakes! It doesn't take me long to get him calmed down and back to sleep, but it breaks my heart :( How much do dogs retain? Could he be having nightmares based on his time in the puppy mill? I am 99.9% sure he was abused while there... All I can say is I am so glad that he is able to sleep with me now and not in his crate, so at least I can comfort him and hopefully make him feel safer... :( |
Oh no! Poor little guy. I'm not sure if it is best for you to wake him up but I don't think I'd be able to lay there and watch him be so frightened. Lucky he has your arms to snuggle into to soothe him. How long have you had him? How old is he? I hope things get better really soon. |
I feel so bad reading your thread, imagining the hard time your furbaby had, it must have frightened Oliver, I hope your love to her will chase the nightmare away :) |
I would do as you are and reassure him when he has the dreams and overtime the negative memories he is having now he will be able to put behind him and focus on the wonderful home he has with you! |
Ceasar Millan always says if you have to wake up a dog you should do it with a positive smell like food. Maybe touching him could have startled him more. If I were you I would try putting a treat close to his nose and see if his reaction is different. My yorkie dreams almost everyday...he whines, wimpers, and runs but i think its cute! Good luck to you and your puppy! |
