People stealing yorkies for christmas! Be careful! I browse craigslist often and in just the last 2 weeks there have been more than 6 yorkies listed as missing in the major cities around where I live. (New Orleans, Jackson,MS, Baton Rouge, etc.) Most of them were only out of the owner's sight for a few minutes and were taken from their yards. My husband is a police officer and he believes that they are being stolen and given to other people as Christmas gifts. He has warned me daily not to let mine out of my sight for even a second. He even double checks the locks every day as we leave to make sure they are locked, bless his heart. I just wanted to give a quick reminder to those on YT to be extra careful right now with your babies. The economy is really bad and there are really bad people out there that will not think twice about taking your yorkie if they can. Just be extra cautious with your babies. |
It's so sad that you need to post this information, but it's so true and needs to be posted to remind us to be careful...As a praying person, I'm asking God to protect mine from any harm throughout this holiday season and for as long as I am blessed to be their mom.... |
I know what you mean my Chi got out around 5yrs ago at Christmas time. He's been gone since. Never found! My hubby said he's definantly someones Christmas present b/c he never came home. I keep a keen eye on my babies especially around this time of year! |
There is a smaller yorkie at a house by our daughters bus stop that I worry will get stolen. She lets him out by himself in the yard and you know how people love the smaller yorkies. I have a fenced yard and let mine out real quick to go potty but I watch them |
How do you steal a person's pet and then give it to someone else's making belive you bought it! May these people rot in he!!. That's all their good for. Keeping the fires below us hot:mad: |

PLEASE, Please ,Please everyone reading this: Dont ever let your guard down as I did for a moment. I thought mine were safe in my yard. He is gone and it will be 5 weeks. I dont wish this pain on my worst enemy. My dogs have been out 2 times since Cookie went missing and we are sitting right there with them and bring them right back in in 5 minutes. Gen |
Stealing them? Outrageous! Why would anyone leave a Yorkie outside unsupervised is confusing to me. They are too small and a predators golden opportunity. |

Gen, I think about you and cookie every time I see a craigslist post about a "missing yorkie". I pray every day that you will be reunited with Cookie. I watch my 2 every second that they are outside and have even stopped taking them to town with me, because I don't want to make it too obvious to anyone that we own one. I'm a teacher and my husband is a police officer, so too many people in this small town know us and know where we live. It's sad that there are people out there like that, but sadly it is a fact of life now. I just hope everyone on YT is a little extra careful right now. |
Thanks for the reminder. I have to admit, I have been incredibly careless in this department. I feel safe in my community and knowing how my incredibly shy boy goes running for the front door whenever he see's a stranger. Plus, most people here are disgusted by his size not believing he is a "real" yorkie. But he is cute, to a desperate person he could be the perfect present for a loved one. I'll keep a better eye on him. |
Thank You! It's always good to know that we need to be careful. It's easy to get lax and not remember simple Yorkie safety tips. I can't believe people would steal and then regift a dog. How sad! |
Thanks for the tip!!!! It's hard to believe that someone would be desperate enough to steal another person's pet!!! I can't imagine what we would do if Sophie were taken!!! Happy Holidays everyone! |
A couple of Craigslist ads I saw. I thought I'd post a couple of the ads I've read recently on Craigslist. ANOTHER MISSING YORKIE ****** RUN AWAY YORKIE****** MISSING YORKIE Lost Yorkie 1/2 Breed Puppy LOST: Yorkie Pup - Male Lost Toy Yorkie-Female LOST DOG!! PLEASE HELP (not a yorkie, but small) STOLEN YORKIE IN COVINGTON There are many, many more listings for small, cute dogs that are missing and presumed stolen. Keep your babies close and safe this Christmas season. |
I always wanted to get one of those cute signs for my front door saying "Beware of yorkie" or "Yorkies live here".... But am too scared to do that and letting people know incase of being broken into. Sad really. |

Isn't it a shame that we have to deal with this? It really makes me think twice about getting pregnant, this world is going down the tubes! |
I don't think we should get so paranoid that we don't take them for walks, or to stores, or otherwise live normal everyday lives, but I do firmly believe that regardless of the breed, if you have a tiny dog, never, ever let it outside alone, even if your yard is securely fenced and your neighborhood is a nice quiet safe one. There are scrupulous people, birds of prey and larger wild animals always on the prowl everywhere. Let's make this a happy, safe holiday season, and share our Christmas experiences with each other, and that includes all our family. |
OH, excuse me, I meant "unscrupulous!!! Guess I'm trying too hard!! |
I know it's really scary. I came home the other night to find my gates wide open. Someone was up to something. We've since gotten locks for the gates. |
I've been wanting to talk about this. It was on the news a few nights ago that a woman in my area got her yorkie (he was so cute) back after being missing for a a whole month. The pup was stolen out of her back yard and sold at a flea market to some people who were kind enough to put a poster up w/ the yorkie's picture on it. I guess they were suspicious about him. It was a great story and i'm glad my news channel decided to run it. People do some crazy things so watch your furbaby. =] |
I to have 4 yorkies that I never let out of my sight! My biggest fear was always someone trying to steal them. And yes it is a shame that someone would do such a hideous thing to steal someones pet and give or sell it to another. I know how I would feel if it happened to me and the poor little dog. Can you imagine how scared he or she is? It makes me angry! |
