HELP! I need advice! Hi! I am on the verge of buying a new yorkie puppy....I need advice regarding males vs females. I have always had female puppies. I am only getting one for a pet, so it will be fixed. I've heard males are more affectionate than females....is this true? Also, I'm scared to death of ending up with a male that marks. How common is this? Thanks!!! Cor |
My boys are more affectionate but you'll receive various answers to that question. I will tell you that my FEMALE has always marked. I don't have an issue with marking as long as it is confined to outside my house. |
Gender Myths Congrats on the new addition!! It is always so exciting to begin selecting that perfect puppy. I have a section on my site called "Gender Myths"... It covers a great deal of the common questions regarding which sex would be the best fit, ect... The link is below and feel free to email if you have any specific questions. I have always had female dogs and they have never marked. They are very affectionate as well. I think you need to go see the dog and see how you bond with it bc dogs have personalities just like us and some affectionate and some are more independent. Hold the puppy and see if it likes being held and etc. Good luck, Pray about it and you will make the right decision for you! good luck! |
I think it is just a matter of cleanliness and how much you care about that. Girls are cleaner when they pee. They squat and the urine travels down the pee string and to the ground. Boys often randomly lift their legs (and fast too) and it splashes and drips on their inner thighs. For girls you still have to wipe the pee string but it is quick. |
for me growing up i always noticed that my boy dogs were very playful and lovey with me, while my girl dogs were very protective, mellow, never wanted to play lap dogs i dont think its based on the dogs sex but rather the dog itself |
Congrats! :) I had female dogs growing up my whole life. Jackson is my first boy dog and I LOVE him! I don't know if I will ever own a female dog again. Not that I dislike them (and I'm sure if the right one came along...) but I don't know, something about the boys I just love (boy doggies that is ;)) He's a Mama's boy for sure. He's a lot more needy than female dogs I know/owned, more affectionate, and less independent than females. A lot of people like the independence of females, etc, so it all depends on your lifestyle. Jackson has never marked indoors ever and only lifts his leg outside at the dog park or a place where dogs have been. He squats to pee! |
next question... thanks for all your tips! sounds like boy dogs aren't so bad! :) another thing I was wondering...we have a 3 year old female mini schnauzzer. does anyone have any opinions on bringing a female vs male puppy into a house where there's another (spayed) female? thanks again! |
