my new puppy I will be bringing home my new yorkie who should be about 14 wks old. I am use to big dogs like labs not small ones but i have always wanted a yorkie. I also have a 3yr old siamese that is fixed. Puppy has his crate and also a penned off area for when im at work big enough for him to play pee/poop on the wee wee pads and play. I work retail so its not always guarenteened i can take my lunch 4 hrs into my shift. I have many toys for him to chew and play with. NO rawhide or easily ripped and swallowed toys though I have done my research. any advice or tips please let me know. I have delt with many kittens growing up but puppies it has been a long time. Puppy is suppose to be up to date on all his shots and i did ask for paperwork. I am getting him from a person not a breeder. so please bare with me if i ahve weird and many questions. but thank u ahead of time. |

thank you all for the warm welcome. I hope im ready. Jude (my siamese) knows something is brewing. but im really glad i found this place at least i know ppl here will be able to help answer my questions im sure to have. his name im not sure yet one is sticking but i want to wait to i see him. I will let u all know when i get him home. Im just a lil sad cuz i only get a few hours with him on friday and then have to work the weekend but it looks like i will be coming home for lunch my 1st 2 days since the landlord will still be fixing the bathroom. im just weird about ppl being home alone with my pets. always afraid i will come home and they wont be there |
I'm so excited for you!!! You'll need to post some pictures when you get him |
how fun...you will fall in love with yorkies...they are so snuggly..well mine are anyway...congrats :):) |
well i got the puppy and needless I am happy but a lil irrated at the lady that sold him to me. He is 10 months old and not fixed. granted I did not pay much for him but its the point. If ur not goona brred him then fix him. He is very affectate(sp) and pleased to be with me and he doesnt seem to mind the cat. My problem is the leg raising already by the coffee table. 3 times since I left him out of the puppy pen area. SO I think for tonight hes staying put in there. I tried all 3 times to pick him up and put him on the pad but he wont go there. I know its his first night and the lady gave me 2 of his puppy pads so I think im gonna try one of mine in case hers doesnt ahve that puppy attract on it. He looks so lonely in the pen. |
I'll share something that worked for me when I got my new puppy 6 months ago. I had to leave him went I went to church or some store that would not allow you to take a pet in. First thing I did was to wear one of my old tee shirts for several hours so that it had my scent on it. I left it in his crate when I went out and I feel it comforted him Immensely. As for potty training I did not get him till he was 6 months old and now he just had his first birthday. When he reached one yrs old. it was like a light went off in his brain. He got it at last. TA DA! But before that, he was clue-less and I was doing everthing you're suppose to. It just took him longer then most. Hope this helps a little. |
i replaced his pee pad with one i bought. I hope its not cuz of my male cat that is fixed. He prob learned it from his last place. Guess im gonna have to get clever and make something I can pin the pee pads to for him to lift his leg esp if hes out of his pen. |
How did 14 weeks become 10 months? That's a big difference. The tee shirt suggestion is great. Give him time as far as potty training and keep working with him. He will eventually get it but I would suggest you get him neutered as soon possible. |
yea i thought the same too but I wasnt gonna let it pass me up. I know that time is the essence and thank god I have tile flooring in the living room hahaha. thank you all for the advice I will keep u posted and I think Loki (from dogma) is sticking for his name |
Welcome and Congrats :) Make sure you have a lot of stain remover :) Also, when you leave during the day. Leave the radio or tv on for the pup Good Luck |
