Weight and Size?? I am days away from owning my first Yorkie and am so excited. Although it isn't a big issue I have been told that the puppy in question will grow to be between 5 and 7 lbs. I have no idea how big this is. Does anybody have any pictures of 5lb, 6lb and 7lb fully grown so I can get an idea? Thank you in advance. |
A gallon of milk is 8 pounds. So picture a gallon of milk with legs |
look at my pup in my avitar she is 5 pds |
Alfie is just over 2kg which I think is over 4lbs and he's only 12 weeks. Is he going to be big? Mum and dad were 7lbs and 8lbs. |
I pet sit for a dog, who used to be a 3 lb puppy at 3 months. He was a cavalier/bichon mix and he is now about 8-9 pounds, if that helps. He is almost a year so pretty much full grown. Scruffs is 7 lbs, perfect size for carrying around and shopping, but he can still hike for miles! |

It is really very difficult to judge size from a photo. Yorkies have all different kinds of builds; some are short and stocky, some are tall and lean, some are very fine boned and some are large boned. You could have two yorkies of the exact same heights and one could weigh 5 lbs and one could weigh 10 lbs. It all has to do with structure. It is hard for breeders to estimate size, especially if the pups are under 12 weeks. How old will your pup be when you get it? Do you know it's current weight? I know you will love your baby no matter what size it gets. |
Rily has averaged about a pound a month. He is 8 months now and weighs about the same...give or take an oz. or two. He was 2.13 lbs. at 12 weeks, so the "double the weight at 12 weeks" really didn't work for him. Rily is long, tall and lean. Saydee is charting about the same, but she is much shorter than Rily. I think each pup is unique and grow at different rates, but believe me, 8 pounds is not big.:p |
the dog im my avatar is 5 1/2 pounds but like was stated he is about as tall as a 7 pound dog |
