Less Food and Water on a trip? HELP!!!! This is about an adult Teacup Yorkie......I'm making my first car trip with my Yorkie and going to my Mother's for Christmas. He already likes to Pee and Poop a lot. My question is...........(and since my mother cannot stand the idea of a dog doing either in her home)..........Would it be OK to "cut down" on the amount and time of giving him water and food? I just figure a little less water and food and giving it to him at fewer intervals would help this problem..........Believe me; he usually gets plenty of both..........Any help out there? |
I wouldn't withhold food or water from a dog if they're used to it, especially at your dogs size. I often will pick up Jackson's water bowl before I get into bed because he has a tendancy to drink the whole bowl in the middle of the night and have to go pee at 3am, lol. But he's also an almost 13lb dog and gets plenty of water throughout the day so I don't have a problem doing that. But to answer your question, no, with a tiny dog... I would not take away food/water if he's used to getting it during the day. |

I agree:thumbup:...if anything I would just try to be a little more diligent about supervising his potty habits at your moms and bring a stain remover just in case. She'll probably forgive him quickly because he's so cute anyway:p |
I have found that anytime we are overnight from home, Harley always eats and drinks less than he does when we are at home just on his own. I think he just need time to adjust to his new surroundings. I wouldn't withhold anything from him, but you may find that he just does it! Jeri and Harley |
