A hernia? My sis-in-law noticed a smallish raised bump on my little three-year olds tummy. I am wondering if this is a hernia, and if so, could this be serious? Have any of you had a Yorkie with a hernia? I did take her to the vet a month ago and I noticed he seemed to zoom in on her tummy, and he felt around it for quite awhile, but never said anything. I thought she had a urinary tract infection at the time. Any help is appreciated. Thank you! Kate (Who is owned by Sadie) |
a HERNIA is probably pretty noticable. My Chai had an inguinal hernia when she was a puppy but it resolved on it's own. I would look on the internet and see if there are any pictures of it? Since your vet may have noticed it you should call him and ask about it. Good luck. |
If it is a very prominent bulge in the lower abdomen it most likely is an inguinal hernia. If it doesn't go away on its own in a few months you will have to have this surgically corrected. :animal36 |
Well i can't say about your pup but in the rescue we have had a few little ones go through here with hernias that needed fixing. I have never seen one that was red. It always has been a regular lump that you can actually push back in. Usually anywhere from pea sized on up. Some hernias if not too big and on young pups actually do fix themselves but just a small amount. You need to keep a watch and just make note if it is getting larger. |
He might have been zoomed in her tummy because of the urinary tract infection. I would give him a call and let him know about the bump. He will be able to tell you what to do, then you won't spend the day wondering if she's OK. Keep us posted! :) |
Kate I think you should contact your vet and discusse the bump on Sadie's tummy. I think if is a hernia she might need surgery to correct it. Good luck. Please keep us posted. |

probably call the vet. Kate |
My little girl has a hernia and you wouldnt know it unless she gets scared and then you look at her belly and then it drops and you can see it. I hope it goes away before she is spayed but if not then we will have it fixed. If it is a hernia keep and eye on her to make sure nothing gets larger. I know I watch Sassy like a hawk cause she loves to rough house with the boys. |
I would do the same. Never hurts to call and ask. |
