Is shipping a puppy safe? Im just curious about this although I would just be scared to death something would happen to them or they would get lost or stolen. Not to mention they might get scared when alone etc. |
I don't know how safe it is, but I would think it would be terribly traumatic especially for a puppy. Also, don't they put them in the cargo section on the planes? And, isn't that terribly cold? Can you tell I don't know anything about shipping them? |
Shipping can be safe. Pet Air for example does not put dogs in a cargo area but rather in a tempurture controlled area. Some breeders on this site will ship if it's the only way but most prefer not too. Pet Air takes great care in making sure the dog is comfortable and safe. They will take the dog out for potty breaks and exercise if there is a layover. With Pet Air the pets are first on and first off a flight. Many pets and show dogs are safely shipped in this manner around the world. |
Shipping Puppy Bently was shipped to us from Dallas to Denver when he was very young. We used Continental. Puppies are not shipped with luggage. They would die from lack of oxygen and the cold temps. Animals are shipped in an enclosed area with heat and oxygen. Now when we fly we fly on Southwest since they only charge $75 each way. But dogs have to weigh less than $15lbs. Good luck. |
my grandmas dog was shipped to her. she bought her off of the internet when we got her she had no more water but the main thing is she hates cars now i think she must have been dramatized in the plane when she is in a car she shakes and gets sick right away. |
Please beat me down in flames but I just think it is so wrong to ship a puppy. How can someone buy a dog off the internet and not actually go and see it or see how the mother is with the puppies. I would never buy a puppy without seeing how the mother is. If the mother has a good temperament then the chances are that the puppies will. I know people do it though so i apologise now if what I have said offends. |

She was wonderfully socialized when we got her and has grown into a well behaved (for the most part:p) healthy, beautiful little girl who just turned 1 year old. |

Yes, I looked forward every week to seeing how Sophie was progressing. I wanted to explain the process so you would understand I didn't go about it willy-nilly but instead did my homework. My breeder was great to work with so I was very comfortable with her. She also shows Yorkies and is the one who updates the AKC suspension sticky here on YT.:) |
Im glad to see my post generated so many different opinions. I dont think I could ship this particular puppy. She hates it when I or my bf just leave the room. I was just wondering because I didnt know anything about it. Thank you for all the responses. |
Here is an interesting site that shows airline incidents with animals: Animal Airline Incident Reports Pretty scary stuff imo. I would never allow one of my pups or one of my foster pups to travel that way. |
My puppy came from Arizona Kathy had a service to bring them, they put her under the seat. This way she could monitor the water and anything she may need. I would do it again in a heart beat, she is a very well adjusted puppy. I can say it traumatized me more then it did her. I know of a lot of airlines that are animal friendly now and a lot of Hotels also. Mary:D |

What GREAT news. Can't wait to meet you in person. Don't want to hyjack this thread -but YIPPIE! Personally, I would not "ship" a puppy. When I need to get a pup from here to there and it is too far for me to hand deliver or for the new Mom and Dad to come here, I use a "Personal Escort" service. The pup is picked up at either Atlanta or Birmingham airport, flown in the cabin with the escort and then personally handed over to the new owners. It's worth a few extra $$ to see that the pups get this type of care. |

I posted a link about this that no one seemed to notice. Or, maybe no one is interested; but, in seeing this comment about one airline being the best, I am going to paste the stats here so everyone can clearly see what CAN happen on airlines. Again, the link is: Animal Airline Incident Reports (1) Total Reports: May 2005 - October 2009 Carrier Death Injury Loss 16 15 2 25 4 0 1 0 1 0 0 2 1 0 0 0 1 1 40 14 3 14 0 11 0 2 0 3 4 2 2 2 1 3 1 0 5 7 4 0 2 0 1 0 1 1 2 0 1 0 0 12 0 4 1 1 1 126 55 34 |

I do not allow my rescues to be shipped...matter of fact, our group forbids it. I think most rescues do not allow it. I have seen some do those "trains", but I don't like them either. Too many things can go wrong. I am totally with you on placement. I also want to meet the person who is adopting. I maintain contact with all of my adopters. |
