Ear hair?? Just a question about ear hair. How much do you pluck out? Do you just do in the ear canal, or do you also do the hair on the inside flap of the ear?? Thanks!:) |
You pluck out all the hair in the canel and the ear flap itself is shaved 1/3 way down, front and back. |
We used to do this but the vet said that it opened the ear up to getting an infection. I'm still unsure what to do because I have heard so many people with varying opinions. What do you guys do/think? |

Once Reesie started growing hair in his ear he has been scratching at them a lot, so I started to pluck. I think the hair is tickling him. He has scratched so much that he has little scabs in one of his ears. So, you think I should stop plucking? |

Pluck vs. no pluck:  Some say the hair catches debris thereby causing ear infections, others say the hair protects the ear canal by stopping debris from entering. I have been taking a middle of the road approach pulling out some of the hair with my fingers, but I have never completely de-haired the ears. Also, I use a flea comb to remove any wax or debris from the ear hair. |
I definately pluck. There's so much fuzz that it can also trap dirt. I only pluck them every couple of weeks - prior to their baths. I use the powder to pluck the hair and then when I put them in the tub I use the liquid cleaner to flush out anything that may be in the canal. Never had any ear problems and they both had a vet check last week - she said they looked great. |

I'm not sure what ear mites look like. Can you tell that they are bugs? Yuck!! |
I've been plucking Daisy and Barney's ears for 9 years now. They have not had issues with ear infections. I use Bio-Groom ear cleaner and pluck the hair with my fingers from inside. I dont shave the ears down too much inside but I do trim them. I also have a tool to look inside their ears so I can see what's in there. So far, it's been pretty boring viewing. I sometimes see wax. Teddy has only been plucked once or twice - he is still a baby. |
I have NEVER ever trimmed, plucked, shaved, or done anything to either of my Yorkie's ear hair. I have never had an ear infection or any other problem. I actually have honestly never even hear of this..... |

Dog ear mites - Treatments and symptoms of dog ear mites - Ear mites in dogs I don't have first-hand experience with ear mites, but the pictures I googled look like little brownish/black spots inside or behind the ear. The website has information about diagnosing and natural remedies. |

owie! poor babies! I've never plucked my boys' hairs out of their ears...simply because I don't care that much, haha. That's just too much pain for me to put my babies through...and brushing teeth is enough of a battle for me, haha. |
