Juust brought #2 home. We just brought home Bella our second Yorkie Pup. I purchased Prince Charming for my wife in June. She purchased Bella as a Christmas gift for me today. For those of you that have multiples how long does it usually yake for them to be accepting of the new addition? Prince will not have anything to do with her. All he wants to do is keep me away from her. He will not even look at her, it is actually kind of comical. |
Welcome and congrats on the new addition. I think it depends on the dogs but it takes time. I am still having trouble with my yorkie accepting our new pup and it has been several weeks. Gypsy accepted # 2 pup with no prob, but # 3 is the problem. Make sure you greet # 1 first make sure it knows he is loved. |
CONGRATS on your new baby girlie!! How very lucky you are and what a wonderful present to you!! Sorry, I can't help with the how long to be accepted, I only got Zhoie last April. Others will surely know. Good Luck :D |
Hello and welcome to YT!! Congrats on your new baby!!! I wish I could help you with your question, but mine just kind of hit it off from the beginning. I know you will get great advice though. :D |
Oh, what a wonderful Christmas gift for you! Congratulations on your new baby girl. I hope your pups will bond really soon and have lots of fun together. They just need to feel each other out and figure out who gets to be the boss-heehee. Do you have any pictures of them to show us? |
Congratulations!! My 3 got along from the beginning, but I just brought in a pom puppy I am fostering and Roxie, my youngest is very unhappy and picking on her and taking away every toy she picks up. She has been here a week and no signs of improvement. I am hopeful she will get better in a week or two. |
I also have 2 Yorkies. I had my first one, Hendrix for four years before I brought home Lucy. Let me tell you, that first week was HELL!!! I called me mom and my vet in tears thinking that I had done the worst thing ever. Hendrix was going to the bathroom and vomiting EVERYWHERE. They were fighting. Hendrix would not even look at me---- it was AWFUL. However, I got through that first week or so and my two babies are now BEST FRIENDS!!! Hendrix still get annoyed with Lucy every now and then because she is a baby and she annoys him, but they really really love each other. Also, it is so much easier having two dogs rather than one. I do not feel so guilty now when I have to leave the house. They keep each other company, they play together..... they have so much fun! Now it has been a couple of months with both of them and they are OBSESSED with eachother. They wake up in the morning and give eachother kisses and clean eachothers eyes and ears. They snuggle together.... I mean they really are so cute together! From my experience you just need to give them some time to fight out who the 'alpha' is and come around to each other. Of course if there is yelping or they seem to be hurting each other then you should step in and pull them apart.... but I usually let mine fight it out when they are fighting over something.... they are dogs- that is what they do. They need to show one another who is in charge. Animal instincts. ALSO--- make sure you give your first baby LOTSSSS of extra attention. WHen you come home greet him first, feed him first, play with him first....... everything. My vet said that is VERY important so that they do not feel as though you have replaced them. WELCOME TO YORKIE TALK!!!! This place is amazing :) and CONGRATULATIONS with your new little bundle of joy!!!!! |
This is Bella, she is 9 weeks old. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s.../family183.jpg This is Prince Charming he is 7 1/2 months old. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s.../family184.jpg Sorry I can't get a picture of them together yet as Prince will have nothing to do with her. He also won't let me anywhere near her. It's funny he is supposed to be my wife's dog but he is all mine. I have a feeling that it may take a while before I get to play with what is supposed to be mine. |
they are both precious!!! |
LUCKY! Congrats on your new baby. they are both adorable. and Welcome to YT! |

Congratulations! |
I just got a new pup (#2) this past Wednesday, but he was a male and my current one is a female. They seem to start getting along more so. It just takes time I suppose. My first yorkie is doing her best to show the new pup that she is the alpha and she is queen. She tends to show her dominance by pouncing over him. The little one just takes it - just gotta deal with the pecking order. Also she growls and barks at times. But yes, It helps to give the first dog tons of attention like said before, and I think having a "neutral" area where they can be together helps a lot. Make sure when they are together that there is no food, toys, or anything that might make the first dog territorial. |
Looks like you have gotten some good advice. I think it's a real good sign that he merely ignores her and hasn't tried to 'pounce' her. He will get used to her in the next few weeks . . or it might not even take that long. My Westie was constantly showing dominance over Lucy her first 2 weeks home. It was kind of scary sounding but I was advised NOT to intervene unless someone was actually getting hurt. Which they weren't. I will reinforce the advice to give your first lots of extra attention so that he knows he has not lost his 'status' as top dog. He gets up on the couch first; greeted first; fed first - EVERYTHING first for Prince Charming. Mine get along fine now - they don't snuggle up together - but my Westie is more of a loner. He may never do that. But, boy, do they play together when they are in the mood! Ringo is 3 - so he's not in constant play mode like Lucy. He will jump up on his stool when he's had enough. She can't make it up there - yet. She did manage to take a running leap one time and get up on his stool and the look on his face was priceless! |
