Shiny Coat suggestions???? Silly question, Looking for information about food, treats, vitamins, lotions, etc. . . that will give my furbaby a shiny coat? Its so hard to find food or treats that don't contain potential allergy causing ingredients. Any info is greatly appreciated. |
Here is a post I found in the health and diet section that is supposed to promote shiny coat and weight gain. This is a treat that promotes good coat care.... Satin Balls is a formula that promotes coat and weight on dogs, it is also used for very picky eaters. I have never seen a dog turn up their nose at them. Mix together: 1 lb. hamburger (very cheap with high fat content) 1 1/3 cup Total cereal, 1 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1 large egg, 1/2 cup wheat germ, 1 pkg Knox gelatin, 2 T. cooking oil (I use coconut oil), 2 T. molasses. I also add 2 or 3 T. Mirra Coat supplement (or whatever supplement you may have), 2 or 3 T Malt ( like you put into icecream to make malts, we use Ovaltine Malt). Make balls (I make each ball about 1/4 cup and can get 2 into a ziplock snack baggie.) and freeze. We laid ours on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper, when it was filled layer another piece of wax paper and then balls and freeze. Once frozen then place them in baggies and keep in freezer until ready for use, thaw in microwave just until not frozen. DO NOT COOK!!! The lady we got this recipe from says she splits 1 ball between 4 chins and 3 chihuahuas every day. Start out with a very small amount and build up slowly, it is VERY rich and can give them diarrea. I feel this could be split between same amount of yorkies. Enjoy!!! |
You can also try adding Show Stopper and/or Gro & Glo to their dry food. Show Stopper is available on line or at Petco. Gro & Glo is at Amazon.com or directly from Copperhills Farms. Also, make sure you use a clarifying shampoo once in a while on the coat to take off all conditioners and oils. Some people use Dawn dish soap (diluted way down), or there are lots of clarifying shampoos out there. Be sure to condition coat afterwards. |
I use Yorkie Splash shampoo & Yorkie Shine conditioner on Sophie and her coat is beautiful. It's made with all organic ingredients specifically for Yorkshire Terriers by a YT member/breeder. You can read about it at Yorkies of Walnut Hills web site. She is the same person who updates the sticky on AKC suspensions. My groomer agrees she has seen nothing like it and Sophie smells amazing, too!;) |
Testimony for Satin Balls HI, I second what tortoisekeeper suggests. Hubby made these up for our sick/dying girl and it was the only thing she would eat (we just lost her on Thursday but we credit these for keeping her alive for the last month). Of course, we had to give them to her brother. We noticed a big difference in his coat. He also has a tendency to itch with the dry winter air, and that's been minimized too. His sister got 3 a day (again, only thing she'd eat) while brother got and still gets 1. He loves them! |
