Happy 13th Birthday, Mon Petit Peek A Boo!
 

To my sweet, little Peek a Boo,
(aka: My Little Man, the BooBoo Dog, Icky, Ick a Boo, Itty Bitty, Itty Bitty Boo, Icky Biddy, Ichabod, Itty It...)

Please know that from the very first day in June that I met you at the Humane Society, you have had my heart in your dear, sweet, tiny paws. I vowed then to take very good care of you, so that you would never, ever be reminded of the pain and confusion of your past experiences, and that you would only know love and understanding from then on, and that under no circumstances would you ever feel that you deserved to be tossed out on the street or dropped off at the pound for anything you ever did, I didn't and don't care how horrible it may have been or will be. Know that this is your home, too. You will never be asked to leave for any reason, and know too that I will absolutely love you forever, no matter what.

It took eight whole months before you trusted me enough to lick my cheek. I cried because I couldn't for the life of me figure out what would prevent you from bonding with me sooner. Then after much thought, I realized that you had your little heart broken too many times by being kicked out of too many different homes that you no longer wore your heart on your leash. I just accepted you as you were.

I vowed that everyday I would find something good you did, (sometimes I had to make something up), so I could give you a hug and a kiss and tell you what a good boy you are! before we went to bed, and that we had at least one good moment together each and every day!

And I'm sorry that the first time I washed your bed you thought I was throwing you out ... I had to carry you around until it dried so I could show you that I just washed it... I hadn't packed it up for you to leave... and you were so happy when I put it back all clean and you realized you were staying.... I got you another bed so we could rotate and you would never, ever feel like that again!

Thankyou for the week when I was so sick I couldn't get out of bed, you stayed in bed with me, by my side the entire time. You refused to leave me. DH fed you on the bed and would put you outside to potty, but when you came back in you went right up to the bed to be with me again... you refused to go anywhere else...

And Thankyou for not leaving me when you got pneumonia this past spring, and I refused to leave you, and I held you for hours and hours over three days when I thought for sure you couldn't survive this disease, and I cried and hugged you and kept you warm and was there, Thank God, those two times you needed me to do CPR to help you make it through,

So today is your Birthday and you are now 13 years old! My Little Buddy! I love you so much! BFF Dude! May you have many happy days ahead...and may those days turn slowly into years... I love you forever and ever and ever...

What a wonderful tribute to your Peek a Boo. I am just crying my eyes out after reading it. He is so lucky (and so are you) to have found each other.
