Advice needed about 2nd Yorkie in house Our first ever Yorkie, Yuriy Ivanovich, is 7 months at the moment and to-day we have been offered another Yorkie pup. At the time when the new one will be ready (January) ours will be 8 months old. Now we are in a real dilema as my only previous experience of more than one dog at a time was a pair of twin Labradors and they were no trouble. In fact fabulous. So one of the pups is a girl and three are boys. Is Yuriy too young to have a new bro. or sis. If we have a new one should it be male or female. If female should Yuriy be neutered now or when? I am totally confused but do feel our Yuriy would benefit from a mate/pal/friend. What are your views? |

I have heard that male/female pairs usually do best together. It would be important that you get Yuriy neutered asap and the girl be spayed around 6 months as well. |

As you can see from my babies ages, I got my first 3 six months apart. I have a boy, then a girl, then another girl, then a boy. They are the best of buddies and I never regreted it for a minute. |
I would only get the 2nd pup when Yuriy is exactly trained how you want him to be. (love the name by the way!!) What I mean is, is Yuriy potty trained 100%? Is there anything that Yuriy does that your trying to train him not to do? The new pup will take after Yuriy so you want to be sure Yuriy can teach him well:). We are also planning on getting a 2nd this coming summer (June 2010.) I could get the new one now b/c Snick is trained exactly how we want him to be, but I don't want to train a pup in the cold snowy winter. Best Wishes & Good Luck:) Snick & Viv |

However I think it best to leave matters alone as Yuriy is 100% trained indoors but dosn,t like to wait to go outside to pee! So, I shall wait till he,s a little bit older, I think. Many thanks for all replies.:D |
