How do you describe the size of your baby... Someone once asked me how big Nicky was... I said.. "Well he is 5 pounds" Then they said, well compair him to something. I was thinking in my head... Well 5 pounds isn't that big, duh... lol... So I started thinking... then said... Well my sisters cat is bigger then he is. My other dog Rocky is bigger than he is. Then all they said was, oh. But this got me to thinking... When someone askes you what do you say.. I tried going by his actual size, just wondering what you all say. No biggie... |
:idontknowMaybe a five pound bag of potatoes with a head, legs and a tail? |
Bigger than a Prairie dog, but smaller than a cat... haha I dunno I have always just said his weight and the people are ok with that.. |
5# bag of sugar, but different shape? It's anybody's guess what exactly people want & they don't really know either most of the time. I know Roxy's body length, so I guess I'd just tell them that. Other option would be to go 'about yea long & yea wide' (using hands to demonstrate). I don't figure most people are really want to know for any particular reason other than curiosity. Most won't even be interested in even owning a yorkie, so I don't figure it really matters too much. |
Usually people have said to me that they've had animals bigger so I'm guessing that they can visualize their size. We've got a lot of big dogs in my neighborhood--New Foundlands, shepards and labs to name a few...we are always joking that their piles of poo are larger than one of my babies. (gross but gets the idea across, lol) |
I tell them a gallon of milk is 8# So a 5# dog is a little more than a half gallon of milk with legs. |
My baby is a little over two pounds....so a small bag of coffee??? LOL>>>> Or how about a big rat with a fur coat? I usually just say the weight too.:aimeeyork |
My 'teapot' is 13 pounds..so I say 'he is big like me'! |
I just say that God was looking after me when he gave us Toto ... she is five pounds!! When I was diagnosed with worse than severe osteoporosis and my doctor told me to not dare pick up more than 5 lbs. ... I said "thank God, I can at least pick up Toto"!!!:thumbup: |
Mine is 6 pounds: Big enough - that's all |
"Well, not near as BIG as he thinks he is." And leave it at that. :D |

I tell people to picture a large squirrel on a leash (3.8 pounds)! |
lol Imagine carring three 5# bags of sugar and a 1#box of sugar. Buddy is the size of a Boston Terrier and just as muscular! Who new:( |
Well Dustie is now 9 months old and weighs in at 4 lbs...just about right..but he is tall in the leg...My hubby thinks he was crossed with a Giraffe in a former life...and he often says he is a head on legs lol...but he has found being taller has advantages..like being able to reah tables lol...Oh so n aughty.!!! Chrisann x |
Thanks all for your insite!! I was stuned when the person who was asking me couldn't figure out his size just by my saying that he was 5 pounds, just about everyone understands that!! It has been cool reading what everyone is saying!! Thank you all for sharing <3 |
My largest yorkie is 7 pounds. My skin kids were 7 pounds and some ounces when they were born, and I remember how tiny they seemed to me. 7 pounds isn't very much when you think of it like that! |
I usually say "he's 6 lbs so..." and hold my hands up and say. "This big!" :D |
I always say the weight and people understand.:) |
I was told mine is a teacup yorkie...and she could sit in one when I got her. But she is a whopping two and a quarter pounds so she can now sit in a mug!!! hahhahahaahhahhahahaha |
