Hi all

Quick question. Is it possible that a pure bred yorkie can have very fine hair (perfect helath though) and white patches on the ends of his back feet? Also, I am allergic to him. Have bathed him twice, but not much difference.

What do you think?

There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. Yorkies and other single coated breeds may work for some people with allergies, but not all.

thing is, we've had yorkies before and can only have yorkies as they are the ONLY dogs hubby and i are NOT allergic to. but this one.... please don't get me wrong, i love him to bits and wouldn't trade him for anything. just want to know if its possible.

How old is the dog/puppy? If this is a puppy under a year old they are most likely losing their puppy coat and growing into their adult coat. A lot of people have allergy like symptoms when they go through this with their puppy but once the adult coat is in they are fine. Daily brushing to remove the loose hair will help a great deal.

Yes, it is possible for a pure bred Yorkie to have white toes...sometimes they even have a white patch on their chest...usually it will turn light gold/tan as the puppy matures.

If your Yorkie is an adult with white patches it may be a parti gene carrier. We'd love to see pictures.

white patches on the feet is common

i dont think people should buy in to that hypoallergenic mess...a dog is a dog...of course one with a fine single coat would be less traumatic then a double coated pom. but its still a dogs phs balance..plus i heard its in the salvia.

Sure looks like precious little Yorki to me. When we picked out HazelNut, the one on my avitar, the whole liter of pups had white patches on there heads, looked like a basket full of eaglets. All the white is gone now, her chest had white on it also when she was a real young pup.:animal-pa

I think you and the hubby are going to have awful allergies and will not be able to keep baby boy, I will PM you my address and send the money for his plane fare, so please to crate him up and ship him to me ASAP:)

He is such a cutie! Looks like a Yorkie to me, but I am new to all this as well. His ears are just precious.

It can be the dust that he is picking up on his coat and dander that can be causing the problem. If he plays on your floor and goes under couches and tables and all - perfect places for picking these things up. I have an air filter I run and then we dust the wood floors daily. I think this helps.
