Yorkies hair I am in the process of looking for a yorkie, and found one about 9 weeks and almost ready to leave its parents but only one of the puppies of the litter has the fluffy puppy hair the rest is just "short hair" like a regular dog, does there hair grow in later in life or is it suppose to have hair already, there were 6 puppies in the litter. I am just worried that they wont get hair. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks- Jessica |
Don't worry. ALL Yorkie hair grows. Infact unless you cut it I believe yorkie hair continuously grows. Congrats on your new baby! |
Are you sure they aren't mixed puppies? I have seen several yorkies on here with the shorter hair, and they are probably mixed... |
Genetics play a very important part in the coat of an adult Yorkie. Make sure you are dealing with a reputable breeder who carefully breeds to produce puppies who look like the breed standard. The market is full of Yorkie puppies from backyard breeders and puppy mills who grow up to be pretty far from what a Yorkie is supposed to look like. What registry does this breeder use? If it's anything but AKC, there is no guarantee the puppies are even purebred. If they are AKC, that is only a starting point. |
My little male had very short hair even at 16 weeks and i had some concerns but by the time he was an adult he had the most beatiful silk coat. If you are certain the puppies are not mixed then I wouldn't be too concerned about their hair growth...a good silk coat grows slow so it can take time to come in. |
