Flying With Your Dog? If you have flown with your dog, do you pay for them? I went on Continental.com and they want $250.00 for her! Seriously?! lol |
I've never flown w/ Jackson however every airline charges for dogs. The chapest I believe is Delta... I think it's like $65 per way or something. Southwest recently lowered their fee to around $85 each way. Don't quote me on that though! You can find info in the Traveling section of the forum :) |
I paid $50.00 per way on a flight from Chattanooga to Orlando on Allegiant Air. But you cannot find that airline in every city. |
We just flew November 15th and paid $75.00 each way on Southwest. You also need vet certificate health clearance, proof of rabies vaccination, and you must pre-register with the airlines. Hope this hellps, good luck, Linda |
Yes you pay both ways and your dog has to stay in a carrier under the seat. Thats why I dont fly with mine |
We flew with Maggie May in July to San Diego and it cost $100 ea way. Like was posted above, they have to stay in carrier, under seat(however, we put her carrier on our laps after takeoff). We flew American and plan on doing it again next summer. |
Delta charges $100.00 per leg. (Airline term...leg = flight). Try to do nonstops. |
Southwest I flew to California from Colorado last August and have a flight this Dec. and Bently joined me for the August trip and is flying with me in Dec. also. Previous poster quoting $75 each way is correct. I did manage to put Bently's carrier on my lap during the flight but during take off and landing the carrier had to be on the floor under the seat in front of me. In August I had the vet's letter along with Vac. records and the gate agent didn't even want to see them. That was $40 down the drain..... Bently didn't seem to mind the carrier but didn't like the noise during take off and landing. Good luck. John |
Kaji and I just flew for Thanksgiving on Delta via Southwestern (or whatever their new merger is) and it was $100 each way. Kaji slept on my lap for the most part and no one knew it. |
I have flown with my yorkie many times and always thought the fee they charge is ridiculous! I haven't travelled this year, but last year Continental was charging $l00.00 round trip for your dog to go under the seat! At that time I thought for that amount of money they should have a seat of their own. I guess like everything else, the price of oxygen has gone up! |

what I did, was take a small little blanket and when the plane took off, I put /Zoey on my lap and covered her with the blanket and nobody knew. Once when I flew with LuLu the stewardess let me keep her on my lap during the flight and even the landing. It just depends if they are dog lovers |

It would KILL me to do this to my dogs, but if you find it necessary - and sometimes it IS! ... Continental has the most animal friendly transport around. No one can guarantee live arrival (shoot! even YOU may die on the flight!) but all animals fly in climate controlled pods, in special areas of the cargo hold. If they're on the tarmac between flights in 100*+ weather, they're safe and airconditioned. If they're on the tarmac in -50* weather, they're safe and heated. Of course, the best way is non-stop, but if you can't do that, then you don't have to worry about temperature control between flights. I just had to research the cost for my boss ... to ship between Tampa and Las Vegas, for an animal between 10 and 50 lbs., the cost is $199 + airport fees. It's expensive, but it's safe. We're dealing with little dogs that can be shoved under the seat in the cabin, provided the in-cabin animal limit hasn't been reached. But folks with larger dogs - even the teapot Yorkies! may not have that option. |
