Aggressive around dogs-need help and assurance My Kayla is 5 months old and typically she is good at home. She knows how to sit, lay down, get her treat when I say "good girl". I took her to her 2nd puppy class and she gets so aggressive and goes absolutely crazy around other dogs. She squirms out of my hands and does not stop barking. She almost bit one of the bigger dogs in the class. The trainer assures me she will change and start behaving around dogs. Im not so sure? Has anyone experienced this with your puppy and what was the result? |
My Westie was scared of the big dogs in puppy class; though he did not show aggression at that time. If I had to do it all over again; I would prefer a puppy class that separates the big dogs from the little ones. He is now aggressive when he sees big dogs and a trainer I went to said maybe he wasn't ready for puppy class and developed a fear of the big dogs there. At the end of class, we always had a 'play session' where the dogs ran loose and Ringo would come running to me if a big dog started chasing him. He definitely was more comfortable around the little ones. Maybe encourage your little one to make friends with one of the smallish dogs and try to keep her away from the bigger ones - if possible |
Kramer also barks and throws himself at bigger dogs. We did a puppy class also and they seperated the little dogs, and he didn't have a problem with them than. Now when I take him on walks or to the park where there are many dogs he goes crazy. The weird thing is when I take him to a dog park and let him off the leash he doesn't do it, but the minute the leash is on he starts barking at them. I think he feels like he can bc I will protect him when he is on the leash. Very embarrassing to walk him and watch him do his high pitched bark at a large dog who could step on him if he wanted. LOL. |
I took Buddy to puppy classes to socialize him and he was good with the big dog's. Actually he was good with all dogs until he turned 1yr. Then he changed. He didn't tolerate large dogs at all. It's been 4 yrs since and we still work on his behavior when one is approching. It seems he picks and chooses who he wants to be friends with. He does have large dog friends but strange ones I have to be on top of him to correct his aggressive behavior. He's come along way.:aimeeyork |
