Bite Not Help My pup is getting fixed on Thursday and I would like to buy her a Bite Not collar (BiteNot Collars). Has anyone here used one before? I am not sure what size to get because she is just over 3 pounds... The smallest size says for under 10 pounds, but I am wondering if I should buy her the small cat size instead. Thank you! :) |
I didn't use any kind of collar on my baby when she got fixed.Instead I went and got a premie onesie (depends on size of your girl) and cut a hole for her tail and she wore that. She couldn't lick or mess with the surgery site while wearing it.When she went potty though you do have to unsnap it and roll it up a bit. Then when she comes back in re snap it.Just another idea. |
I did the onesie thing as well (just make sure you get the right size, the newborn size isn't always long enough - or wasn't for Winston who's 12 inches long.) The bad side to the onesies is that it doesn't allow the area to breathe, so constant wearing isn't always good for healing. If you have a craft dog, sometimes they can get out of them. (Winston managed this a few times, without even unsnapping it! I just picked up a plastic e collar for Winston to wear part of the time. I considered the inflatable ones that petsmart sells, but I heard a lot of them leak or pop so we did the old-fashioned route. If you'd like a collar to stop the licking, one of YT members makes fabric e-collars that are a lot more comfortable and you won't have possible sizing issues it sounds like you might have with the bitenot collars.) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ne-collar.html Took a better look at those bitenots - did you measure her neck? the smallest one has a length of 3.5 inches, so if her neck isn't at least that long you'll have issues with the plastic stretching her neck and possibly hurting her. The plastic must be semi rigid, so it prevents them from turning their neck and irritating things vs. the traditional cone. Too long would hurt her neck I'd think? |
When Guinness was about to get neuthered I considered it and call the company regarding their sizing. I was told then that they didn't think the collar would work well for the back part of the body. Later, I tried one on him at our local pet store and sure enough he had no problem getting to his wee wee. |
The onesie also. But in a bind, you can use a towel around his neck. As always be careful. |
Thank you! I will definitely try the onesie and the soft e collar. That looks more comfortable than the hard one and the bite not. I never would have thought of the onesie! :) |
