grooming Is anyone adventurous enough to groom their own yorkie? We keep their faces short but I'm wondering how to trim their bodies? Do u do it wet or dry? We are a little worried about the canine flu going around and our older yorkie has been sick. Any suggestions would be helpful!:) |
i have toby in a puppy cut all year round and i do it myself............ i do it with electric clippers (body) and his fae with scissors.. (i dont wet his hair i "mist" his hair with water, but dont make it completely wet) |
grooming hey thanks for the tip. I'm off to Petsmart tomorrow for my tools. I keep both of mine in a puppy cut also. Thanks for the tip about the misting! :aimeeyork |
I just started grooming my own Yorkies a few months ago after I got Cookie back and they chopped her up to look like a boy . So, I groom them myself now. I'm still learning but I use scissors on her whole body and clippers on her ears if needed. I usually cut them before their bath (when the hair is still dry). But, my little girls have a little curl to their hair, so an uneven cut would not be noticable on my girls. I definately do the hard part first in the grooming process (feet, nails, ears) because they tend to cooperate less as time progresses. Hope this helps. |

Just keep trying! Gets easier! Owned two yorkies 15 or so years ago and kept them trimmed myself. Watch what the groomers are doing if you can. Have a new Yorkie-Chi aka "Chorkie" . Her name is Bitsy and she looks and acts just like the pedigreed ones I had before. I started trimming the pads on her feet and also trimmed the ears shortly after we brought her home at 10 weeks. She does not mind it at all. Someone on this forum recommended round tipped scissors and they work great. I also find it easier to groom them on a towel placed on the dryer. Less squirming and easier to handle. |
As if! I wish I could, I can't even cook,! I'm not about to try and be a groomer! Good luck to you! Maybe a groomer class would help you. Sorry I'm no help, I just thought it was a good question! :D |
