So I must not be able to love as well as you because I don't put my dog into little pink sandals and frilly skirts? Okay, just wanted to clear that up. Oh...Did it occur to you that there are places in the world that would consider you unloving, self absorbed and cruel to make your little child OH SO CUTE? |
This isn't the right place to argue over semitics (sp?). If anyone wants to have a jibe at me about what a callous bitch I am, please start a new thread. |
Ohhhh, so you're refering to people as treating their dogs like a child when they dress them up. Silly me, here I thought you meant food, shelter, love, attention, kindness, compassion, loyalty etc. So just putting clothes on a dog substitutes for not having fullfilling enough relationships? Wow...that's deep.... |
^^ I am basing that opinion on personal experience. The people I've met who view their pets on the same status as their child have had issues in their human relationships. I am not saying you or anyone on here does, I am basing that opinion on my experiences. Are you satisfied to agree to disagree? Or would you like to bat some more passive aggressiveness back and forth? I know we both feel strongly on our opinion so we can go all week if you want to. ;) |
I am one of the ones that call my dogs my furkids. My dtr thinks it's hilarious. She's 23 and out of the house. She kids that I treat my 3 better than I treat her. I do know that she is kidding. She is the same way with her yorkie and doxie. While little dogs can do some damage if they attack someone they are easier to get away from I would think than a bigger dog. Personally I am afraid of certain breeds. Yes I know it is wrong to generalize, but I am. I wonder if that woman had ever acted like this before in your shop. We once went into a shop that had 2 cats in it roaming around. We left because my dtr and husband are extremely allergic to cats and i am not a fan of cat hair on my clothes. I would never have thought to ask the owner to put up the cats while we shopped. |

That is just wrong!! I just had to add my 2 cents here... That is wrong for someone to do. Hide behind a child over a little adorable pooch wanting to say hello!! The child probably wanted to say hi to your baby as well. OMG... its people like that who make their children afraid of everything. UGH... My Nicky wants to be in the middle of everything all the time. He LOVES to come say hi to people!! I think its in their nature to be like that!! Some people are just goofy, and strange!! Quote:

You said it yourself - "phobics", that is an irrational fear. Ignore this person. Do you want to know why we got a Yorkie? We buy maple syrup from an elderly man who makes it as a hobby. His syrup is OK. We buy from him, because every time we comes out to bring the syrup, he is followed by him romping, exuberant Yorkie named Molly who rolls over and asks complete strangers for a tummy rub. I never knew Yorkies were so adorable and engaing until I met Molly. In the beginning, we used to stock up on syrup just so my son could see Molly. Then, once I noticed their relationship build into something special, I decided to pull out the stops and see if there is any way we could actually get a pet of our own (he has bad allergies, even to hypoallergenic dogs sometimes). So we got one. (two actually, but we'll stick to the happy story for now). So there you have an example of a customer choosing a merchant *because* of the Yorkie. Hope that helps! |
Just wanted to say I agree with AngelC, the worst part for me was reading this woman used her child as a sheild against the little dog. This is a sure fire way of creating the same phobia in her child. I know bad experiences cause phobias but reacting in such an over the top way never helps, in another dog it could of actually prevoced an attack as they pick up on the fear. I too had a similar experience many many years ago. I was walking my little-one Hope, we were just passing our local shop when I spotted this guy suddenly plaster himself against the wall and scrape along it to the shop door before dissappearing inside to safty. Hope was all of 3.5lb and only had 3 leggs. Now I know he didn't know this but really, the only part of him in danger would have been his toe if she wanted to attack which she wouldn't. More recently I was out walking Alfie and Rosie in the morning when I passed a group of teenagers going to school when one announce loudly they had been chased by 5 of those dogs', cant immagine it was around here as I dont know anyone with that many yorkies, And I would know as everyone would be telling me all about them, I'm the woman with the Yorkies around here. Didn't seam to fazed by it all though. |

IMO, generally speaking, no one should ever have to deal with someone else's dog, cat, hamster, whatever running up to them not on a leash. That's part of being a responsible pet owner and having a general respect for others. However, IN THIS INSTANCE, I think the lady's behavior was uncalled for and over the top. If she was a regular customer and know that Uni was in the store, then it shouldn't have reacted the way she did or have been surprised. I can understand if she had never been there before and Uni ran up to her, but she was a repeat customer! I would have loved to have been greeted by Uni, but then again, I'm a dog person, more specifically a Yorkie person...not all people are. (Although I can't imagine why not!?:p) But it was YOUR store and IMO, if she didn't like it, she could leave. I think this is a case of someone's irrational behavior and not an issue with a phobia. Phobias are VERY real...even if you don't understand them. (And I can completely understand someone being frightened and completely freaked out by dogs!) I am really hoping that I just misunderstood the comment about "phobics being an irrational fear." :( |

HHAHAHAHA i LOVE that dog wearing a shirt!! he's so cute and so professional looking. it's like he's saying "Can I help you ma'm?" People are stupid! I do think if i had a shop i'd get a sign that say's beware of killer yorkie...lots would laugh, some would be forwarned to leave me alone ;) |
Hey Capt Noonie, I think Uni needs a friend in the store... a doberman lol, lets see how she likes that! |

I have a friend who is scared of my 4 and 5.5 lb yorkies...I'm sorry, but that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. she has two daughters, one of which is already TERRIFIED of my dogs, and I'm sure the younger one will be too...way to go parents for ruining something for your child that they could have greatly benefitted from!!! |
Well Capt noonie..my hubby and I had an embroidery shop for 15 years and both of our furbabies went to work with us every day...customers would bring their kids by just to visit tigger ( our chow/golden) he has the most sweet and loving personality. and to tell you the truth we had one lady come in to the shop and refer to my shelby rae as looking like a rat...I told her I would not do her embroidery and I didn't.. so I can totally understand your feelings...we have friends who are deathly terrified of dogs but they don't come to our home because they know we won't lock the babies in a bedroom..we have made it clear that this is the babies home and they won't be locked away...:) |

I totally agree with you bringing your dog to the shop it makes for a wonderful invironment my nail shop bring there spitz Yoshi to work all the time he visits all of us while were getting our nails done the shop allows me to bring Penny " my yorkie " and she plays while were there. My bank ALWAYS has doggie treats at the drive thru and my other dog Jade ( border collie ) knows when were a block away she going to get a treat. I tried just going to the drive thru ATM once she stared a hole through my head i ended up pulling out going back through the line to go to the window so she could get her cookie but you know what it made me slow down and have just that tiny bit of personnal contact with the teller! |

Ok....I think if I knew that a store owner kept her dog in the store...that's just the store I would perfer going to....I happen to notice that a higher percentage of people automatically put a smile on there face when approached by a friendly dog....big or small! How could you not??!! They are great conversation starters! Geez....I would maybe not even buy anything...just go to see Uni!!:luv: I get those people that are weary of dogs...and if so....why go to a store where you KNOW there is going to be a dog ??!! I also swore that ohhh nooo...I would never dress my dog up....and Lucky has more clothes than me....with matching bows!!lol To each their own ......I have three skin kids and one furkid....when I refer to him as my furkid it only means that I don't love him any less than my own children.....and would do just as much for him!! No, he isn't human but he's much more than just a dog (to me)! BTW....Jackson is definately one of my favs here....every sweet pound!! lol :luv: |
I was in a pet boutique when a lady came in with three medium sized dogs. One was a golden, the other two were terriers, I think. When I was checking out, one of her dogs came over to me, and I backed away. (They were on one of the expandable leashes.) I asked her if she could shorten the leash, and she said, "Oh, they won't hurt you!! They're very friendly!" (My last dogs were a golden and a german shepard.) I told her that I love dogs and wasn't afraid of them, I just didn't want their scent on me because Prince would wonder who I was with!! We all laughed. She said that it would make him think you were cheating on him!!;) |
