Potty Training Outside We're training our 9-month old yorkie to go pee and poo outside. We have a door that leads to our enclosed back yard. Currently, he'll scratch at the door to potty or if he just wants to play outside. When your dog scratches at the door, do you let him out no matter what? Even if he just wants to play with a tree branch? Or do you only let him out to pee and poo? We're confused. We'd like to let him out just to pee and poo but then we miss letting him out and he'll go on the pee pad again. We're afraid that if we let him out whenever, he'll always want to come in and out all the time. Thanks in advance. |
I kind of just play it by ear. Most of the time when Jackson barks at the door, he really has to go. But sometimes of course he just wants to go outside to simply go outside. If I KNOW he just went... sometimes I'll just say "no, go lay down!" and he does. Other times, I'll let him out anyways. But yes, you will get in the habit of a lot of in-and-out. |
