Two Yorkie puppies? So as you all know we got cooper about a week ago. Well the Breeder called us Wednesday and told us the other little guy that we were interested but she had told us someone wanted him and was picking him up at six, was still available and wanted to make sure we didn't want to change our mind. But if we wanted him then she would take 100 for him. So are we nuts to take on two puppies? We just feel bad for him and cooper would love a playmate I am sure. SHe said she was just gonna have a hard time getting rid of him because he will be 10 lbs and he is already 15 weeks. So older than cooper....so what you do you guys think? Is this a stupid decision? |
Nah! Go for it. If they are siblings or were raised together, they have already established their pecking order so that is one big thing you won't have to work on. It would just be a little more work on the potty training. |
They are not siblings but the same breeder raised them. They are both males. I have been doing some research (which some times I wish I would never do) and they say it is ahorrible idea and as adults most likely they will be aggressive with eachother? I would think the opposite, but that is also why I am researching this. Any ideas? |
Many people here have multiples...if you're willing to train them-go for it! Enjoy twice the fun and yorkie love. We'd have a dozen here if we had time to properly train them all! |
I have 3 yorkies, 2 from the same breeder, different litters and they are very bonded even though they were gotten over a year apart. They are all females and get along. But the 2 from the same breeder are much closer to each other and sometimes pick on my other one. So if you think you want 2 I think it is a great deal and they will be best of friends. |

What a horrible breeder to put this on you. You are not the breeder, the breeder is the one responsible for finding homes for puppies. Obviously the breeder does not have the best interest for her puppies in mind. If she did, she would not have done this instead she would be giving a loving home to the pup still for sale until the right home comes along instead of trying to unload him cheap. Having said all that, I will caution you, it possibly may work out but most of the time, two puppies at the same time doesn't. Then what would you do? If you want second one, wait until the first is close to a year old. |
The heart rules;)If you want the second little guy I say go get him. The fact that they were raised together will certainly help. I tried two females at one time but it didn't work out because they weren't raised together and they were older (7 & 8 months). I agree you shouldn't be emotionally blackmailed but if you want him... get him. I have read that potty training can be easier if you plan on having two anyway because you get it all over with all at once. Good Luck on your decision. :animal-pa |
I have 2 from the same breeder that are a month apart in age. Potty training was more difficult but everything else was great. My two are very close and have never been aggressive towards each other. I would get him |

She lowered the price because he's older - and bigger which we all know a lot of today's market doesn't want. Personally OP, I think if you're up for the "challenge" of potty training two... go for it! You do have the slight issue of "not knowing who did what" but you really can't punish a dog for something they may no longer be aware of/aren't in the process of doing so that can be a bit of a moot point. They already know each other which means you won't have such big introduction issues... You may have some tumbles because they are both boys, but unless you're playing on not neutering I don't really think you're going to have any serious problems. |
Thanks So we went ahead and got the other pup. We named him Ozzie. He is much bigger than Cooper, since he is a month older. They love eachother. Yes they are a little rough with eachother once in a while but when it comes down to it they are both cuddling in their dog bed together sleeping. Yes, this is A LOT of work, but potty training in general is, we now just have two. It was a pretty big decision but we just couldn't pass up the opportunity! We love them both and we have some adventurous days ahead I am sure. Thanks for all the advice! |
Congratulations:DThanks for letting us know. Welcome OZZIE!:animal-pa |
Congrats! |
I agree! Congrats 2 puppies how fun, yes a little extra work but once you get them trained and the way you want you only have to go through it once. If you wait for one to get older before you get another one then you have to start all over again. I think I would rather train two at once and get the hard stuff over with and bring on the fun;) |
Congratulations on quickly becoming a multi-yorkie owner. I am very happy with multiples (1 Yorkie, 3 Morkies & 1 Schnauzer). I think much of my success in raising them comes from my deep commitment to be their forever skin-mom, plenty of time & patience, financial ability to cover all their needs including potential vet emergencies, oh.... and a king size bed, cause 4 of them sleep with me. When problems come up, we work thru them cause nobody is disposable in this household. I wish you all the best, and hope to see pics soon:) |
Talking about having them sleep in the bed...when is it appropriate to start this?? Of course I can not wait to get them in our bed, but I know we need to crate train...and we have been...I'm just anxious! |
