For those with yorkies with a silky coat
 
This is my first yorkie with a silky coat. Summer, my other yorkie has a cotton coat. My question is does your silky coat not stay soft and pretty for long? Tatum coat isn't oily, just looks unkept even if I brush it everyday. :( Maybe theres a shampoo you can suggest. :) I could wash her twice a week, but once a week is plenty. Thanks for your help!

I wouldn't bathe more than once a week, too drying on the skin. Uni's coat is silky and it is getting better since we've switched her food to Wellness and shampoo to biogroom. She was itching on her shoulders a lot and breaking the hairs. The hair on her butt is nice and long. Hopefully we'll get a nice even long coat soon.

But yes, her hair kinda clumps up together, but it's not oily, and if I brush it, it brushes out easily.

Oh yea, we also got a new brush from mimimomo, and it's waaaaay better than others i've used. Barely ANY hair breaks off! :thumbup:

Mimi has a fine silky coat, but if I don't brush her everyday, it looks messy.:p I do have to give her a bath once a week to keep her soft. I use MinkSheen & Tomlyn Nova Pearls Creme Rinse Conditioner. She'll be soft for maybe 3-4 days.

Cowboy has a silky coat. He gets greasy easily. I have used a LOT of different products, CC included, but Pantene works great. Remember that the coat needs sprayed (misted) before brushing. Don't brush a dry coat. I'll attach a picture of my Cowboy.

His coat is beautiful. What type of Pantene do you use? I have alot about it and also Minksheen. I think Minksheen is real expensive.

Thank you. Right now it is the "moisture renewal" hydrating one. But I use on him whichever one I am using at the time.

Just like to check, you want to keep your yorkie long coat? if yes... u can try Vellus Satin Cream... its work wonder for my yorkies

Sorry to ask, do u mean the coat is very fizzy? try not to bath too often ask u might wash away their body oil, u can either use conditioner after shampoo your dog, try to use leave on conditioner eg brand like #1 All system or after bathing u can apply leave on Silk Spirits

Beautiful dog and coat..does the Pantene not effect the ph in the hair and skin.I use it myself and love it,but I was afraid to try it on my furbutts:confused:

Human shampoo does but not conditioner so pantene conditioner is fine

I'm still using Biogroom Puppy range although Sugar is 9 months old. It's "tearless" which is good, but the aroma won't last long, 3 days maximum :( It's time to switch I know! ;)

Buddy's coat is silky and always feels like velvet. I keep his back shaved
with longer hair on the legs, tail chest and head. When he had a longer
coat he still was so very soft. I bathe him every other week per vet when
I got him as a puppy. He always smells yummy, never has an order to him.
I love touching him because he's so soft. We use Minksheen, PetSkilk,
Harry Barker shea butter and BuddyWash. Of course the conditioner with
each. I comb him about three times a week.
He has never been oily.

Pixie has a silky coat and she looks oily after a few days. Julz, Cowboys coat is just gorgeous.

Her coat isn't long but not real short either. I am debating on cutting it short because it doesn't stay pretty long.

I breed silky terriers so all my babies have silky coats, I found that maine and tail works wonderful for their coats, I do give them a bath twice a month. to keep them clean and always follwed shampoo with the conditioner leaving in for a about 3 minutes and then rinsing well..
no oily residue and their coats are always nice and shiney..

My gang looks great while using this product. I love the conditioner on them also. I truly have never had a problem with their hair or skin from using it. The picture of Cowboy was 2 days after a bath and right after brushing a bunch of leaves out that got stuck to him while outside:p. Gosh, the leaves sure stick to long hair!

I've never found anything that keeps the coat clean and conditioned better than Stazko Shampoo, Conditioner and Anti-Static Spray (in that order). You can get it at PetEdge.
