New Member looking for yorkie Hello, Im a new member and love all of your post and great info on Yorkies. We are in the process of finding our new little bundle of joy to add to our family. We have 2 kids (girl age 6 boy age 8) who desperately want a yorkie puppy. They are involved in many activities and we seem to be on the go a lot. If we are going to add a dog to our family, we need one that is fairly low maintenance and one that can be on the go with us. Also, not sure if we should get a male or female. I’ve read conflicting info about the temperament of the two. Either way, we would want it spayed or neutered. Any assistance or recommendations on reputable breeders in North/Central Texas area who have available pups would be greatly appreciated. |
I think a male or a female would be fine but I highly recommend getting one thats going to be a larger yorkie. I have 2 and My larger one is alot better with kids. He even goes in and sleeps with my Daughter for a little while at night. My smaller one never plays with my Daughter. |
:welcome4:Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Not sure of the breeders in your area but someone will chime in I'm sure. We are on the go, too. Our Sophie goes almost everywhere with us, even sailing:) Our last two yorkies have been female but both male and female are loving little companion dogs that will want to be with you as much as possible. Sophie is very good with children but I can't speak for all yorkies. Some puppies will have different temperaments around children. |
A yorkie is really easy to bring "on the go", but I would not consider them to be low maintenace. They require alot of grooming and attention. Attention I'm sure wouldn't be the problem, seeing as you have two children, but the grooming might be. Missy is the most high maintenace dog I've owned. Alot of people think the tiny yorkies aren't meant to be around children, but my Missy is 3 3/4 lbs and my children (ages 4-7) are incredible with her. They are so, so careful, but I made sure to teach them "the rules" before bringing her home, and I would give them reminders for the first little while. We had a scarey reminder of how fragile these little ones can be when Missy broke her leg as a puppy. As far as whether to go male or female, I like both. It really depends on the individual puppies personality. Good Luck in your search for your pup! |
