potty training frustration! HELP! Lucy is CLUELESS!!! She is going on 5 months and has no idea what potty training is. I am trying to "wee wee pad" train her because I live in an apartment, so it is hard to take her outside every 30 minutes because it is such a production to get her harness and her lease on and get out of the building and blah blah. I am getting so frustrated though! I know Yorkies are super hard to potty train, but does any one have any advice for me? My other one, Hendrix, took about a year, but I was living in a house so it was so different to just let him out into the yard every 20 minutes. I would love any and ALL suggestions! I am going crazy and am going through carpet cleaner and candles like crazy! |
You're may not like my answer, but I'm telling you my story...I couldn't pad train Apple for all the tea in China...I finally realized it was the carpet, because even 'though you may get the scent out of the carpet, you can never get it out of the pad, and it's encourages them to go...I know you can't do this, but I took out the carpet and replaced it w/laminate (fake wood lol) floor, and Apple was housebroken w/in a couple of weeks...I guess the only advice I could give you is to gate in the kitchen, or get a big xpen and put a big piece of vinyl on it, and wait 'till they go on the pad, then give lots of praise and a TREAT...Apple, totally, responds to treats...I'm sure some ppl have succeeded on carpet, and hopefully they'll give you their stories....Also, go to the training thread and look for answers there too....Good luck.... p.s...I could never get Apple to come in from the backyard, 'till she learned the word treat, and now all I have to say is treat treat, and she's in...I use fresh steamed green beans (organic) for treats, so she doesn't get fat...I make a new batch every three days... |
I live in an apartment too. It's really hard to potty train her, I understand :) What I do is, I put her in her pen, and wait until she pee, after that she can run freely in the house. I put her back to pen every hour, just to give her time to do her business. Sooner and later, she knew she couldn't pee anywhere other than her pen. I hope it helps! |
My dog was found on the street, apparently was trained to relieve themselves in the yard until I found a tick I was freaked, so I decided not to take her out again, then I noticed she pee in the same place in the livingroom. I bought the pads and put it in that area, at first she did it on the side but now that's the only thing she use. |
I don't have any advice but I can tell you that you aren't alone. Delilah is eight months old and she still pees on the floor. I don't know what to do. It seems there is no end in sight. And I was hyper-vigilant with her. I took an entire week off of work when I first got her. I let her out every 20 minutes for the first two months. It's very frustrating. Hang in there! |
I think some dogs just don't get the indoor pitty things. I believe all dogs are different and some get the pee pads really quick and some never get it. I lived in an apt when I first got my yorkie and it was hard to go out all the time but it was worth it in the long run. I don't think you have to take her every 30 minutes. Maybe every hour or hour and a half. |
