We're sleeping to much? I know you folks will laugh but we are new parents as of two days. Our little 9 week old Penny is still sleeping after 2 hours. Is this normal this long. Okay, the grandkids were over and played with her, she loved it. She is not sleeping at night. Crying off and on at night in her crate. We need our sleep so we put her in a far warm room. I have held her in our bed and she falls asleep in 30 seconds but we can't go that route as we would roll on her. Do you think she is over tired or should we wake her. Thanks |
Congrats! As long as she eating ok and showing no sign of low blood sugar she is just being a puppy. If she seems lethargic or wobbly get her some nutrical or syrup. |
She is just a baby and really 9 weeks is very, very young. How long did the gandchildren play with her? I would not worry what so ever about 2 hours. In regards to nights do you have a table right next to your bed so you can put her in her crate but she is right by you? Yorkies are companion animals and do not like to be apart and she is scared and lonely. Some people have even put the crate in their beds but then everyone gets to sleep. |
I got my Pixie at 8 weeks and she got tired real easy she would play for an hour and sleep for two! The first week I would give her nutri cal in the morning and at night just a lil bit on my finger. Also what I did for Pixie was put a crate right next to my bed and draped a blanket on the sides of the crate and made sure she had water and food in the crate. I also heat up a blanket in the dryer before bed and I cover the front of the crate with one of my shirts so it smells like me. I leave the back open so that she can see me and wake me up to pee and she does. I also found that runnning a small fan in the bedroom just for the noise, helps I just make sure it isn't near her or blowing on her. I hope that helped you!! |
she has been taken away from all that she knows so the crying and everything is pretty normal, she will get settle in in a few days. They do sleep alot and a small breed dog when they are young do not have much reserve, just have nutrical and or karo syrup around so she does not get low blood sugar, they are no diiferent than a small child if they are left alone, they like to be with their humans even when they are older, make a place next to you at night and have a t shirt of something that smells like you will help |
Penny had a great night and so did Mom Thanks for the help. I put a shirt that I wore all day in her crate. Put the crate on the bed, glad we have a King, covered the sides and somewhat front. She slept great and so did Mommy and Daddy. What is Nutrical and where do I get it? How do I use it? |
that is normal for a puppy that age after hard play. In fact too much play can csuse them to sleep so much they can get hypoglycemia. You need to make sure she is eating, you can give her karo syrup, and put some in her water for a couple of weeks. |
nutrical you use for low blood sugar which the little one can get if they over play and they are not eating enough, you can get it at petco, petsmart any of those places, I believe you just put it on your finger and let them eat it. I never had a problem with chester because he was a little bigger than some. |
