when do yorkie's ears go up? okay well I am a little confused... I have been told many different things, some say that they go up on their own and some say that you HAVE to tape them or they never will. My baby is about to turn 9 weeks, and I shave the hair on her ears so that they are light. Someone told me if she has overly large ears or if they are thick, that they might not stand up, but she has petite ears and they are thin. So what should I expect? Will they go up on their own? And when? |
I'm not exactly sure as Bailey's ears have always stood straight up, but I would say probably tape them. I remember Bailey's sister's ears were floppy and the breeder was taping them and said she wouldn't let her go home until they were up pretty well. |
Both of my yorkies ears were up by 12 weeks. So any longer than that I would tape |
okay, I guess I will wait a couple more weeks. They look like they are trying to stand up, they arent exactly floppy. I was told by a couple people to massage the ears, does this really work? |
I was told not to touch the ears, so I don't know about massaging. People always thought I was crazy when they'd come over and touch her head and I had to tell them not to touch her ears because they might fall. Haha. |
At 8 weeks they were flopping but not completely floppy than at around 2 and a half months hers went up then wnet down for a week, now they are up XD Make sure you dont let her ears get too fluffy because I heard it weighs them down :P |
My Derby's ears only go up when he feels like it. I think he's lazy! He's 5 months old. |
I was told by one person not to touch the ears too, because it could damage the cartlidge or something. I just want to get this right. I love how cute the puppies look with floppy ears, but I really like how they look with their ears up. |

I have a 9 month old female, her ears have been up and stayed up since she was 13 weeks old. My 8 month old male has floppy ears. They stand out a little but will not stay up. I massaged them but I never wanted to tape them. He is so cute the way his ears are. He also weighs 11 lbs. His mom and Dad were 8-9 lbs. |
my Lee's ears stood up by themselves at 4 months,he is 6 months now, i did tape them but they would fall down after a week, so i left them alone and one day, one ear stood up by itself and 2 weeks later the other stood up,some times they do fall down but fot the most part they are always up. |

I had a similar experience. One of Zoey's ears stood up at 12 weeks and the other was a bit slower - going up at about 15-16 weeks. They both stand erect 24/7 now and we did nothing at all - no massaging, no hair trimming, no taping. Although we would have loved her any way she ended up - we began to view the one up/one down as just being 'Zoey's Way' of being different than the rest ;) Hope that helps! ~Denise |
Ella's ears stood up around 3 months old. Some never do though. We had a litter of yorkies and 2 out of 5 had floppy ear. You never know. |
As a breeder, I can tell you that they can come up on their own at 6 weeks. Mine are all usually up by 8 weeks. The breeder needs to start trimming the hair off the ears at even 3 weeks old. You can tape ears. You have to do it right though. You can google it to find some good tips. I also feed lowfat cottage cheese to encourage the ears to go up, it can work wonders:) A teaspoon a day. |
I thought my lil' princess was going to have floppy ears...but around 5 months the right ear stood up. Now she's six months and both ears are finally standing. I never taped and her ears had not been shaved for about three weeks. I suppose she was just a late bloomer. Either way I think she is a cutey pie either way. |
