car rides i was wondering if dogs grew out of being nervous, or getting sick during car rides. so many times, i just have little places to go, like picking up/dropping off up my son and my hubbie from school and work. i bought a seatbelt attachement for his harness, and i've taken Smokey with us a couple times so far. i just wonder if his nervousness will wear off, and if he'll start enjoying it. he hates being away from me, and i thought it would be nice just to have him with us. what do you all think? today was the only time he got sick in the car, so i don't think it's going to be common for him. it's been a stressfull few days for him. :animal36 |
He might outgrow it. My Jewels hasnt so I just dont take her in the car unless I have to. Chachi used to get a little nervous and bark in the car but he quit doing that in time and loves to go on car rides now |
He probably will grow out of it. Do you have a carseat for him? This might make a difference as it will keep him more steady on his feet. I would highly recommend the snoozer car seat. I like how sturdy they feel and you can buckle the seat in as well as harness clip your little one. Maggie used to get nervous and car sick big time. Once she figured out when she look out, she didn't get sick. She now will jump up into hour suvs and onto the seat and then into the carseat before you can blink, lol. |

See the LUXURY Booster Pet Car Seat LOOKOUTS** here i have my 2 boys in car seats in the back, so i'm not sure i'd be able to fit it right now, but it's definitley a thought for later. :) |
The first month I had Jackson, he hated the car. I thought he would never get over it. I got him at 9 weeks old and the very first day I brought him home... he threw up and got car sick. I started traveling with him in the crate, thinking he couldn't look out the window, he would literally bark/whine/cry the entire drive. Sooo... I bought him a harness that attached to a seatbelt and it began getting better. This phase lasted about 4 weeks and then, he was/is absolutely fine. He's now 1 year old and JUMPS into the car. He rides the entire time almost with his head out of the window, LOL. |
Tucket does fine when he's not in his crate. I think when he's in his crate, he gets motion sick because he can't see out a window. When he isn't in his crate, he's fine because he sticks his head up so he can see. :D I will have to look into the pet boosters because I am always worried what would happen if someone were to hit me. I'm never far from home but still... |
Just like with little children, safety first! Our little furfaces need carseats and seatbelts too! |
Nala would always cry in the car. It was slightly better with a car seat so she could see out of the windows, but the car seat had to be in the front seat so she was with everyone else. Now she is much better but still cries sometimes (shes 8 months). Hopefully she'll keep this up for Thanksgiving....driving from MD to NY possibly to MASS. |
Callie used to get sick in the car and we bought her a carseat that lifted her up so she could see out the windows and be safe and it helped a lot so I suggest a carseat. |
Rio has yet to love car rides, and she's in a car at least twice a day. She gets baby sat Monday - Friday, so she has no choice. I put her in her car booster and open the window, but she still shakes and pants. She absolutely hates it but as soon as we get to our destination, it's all waggin' tail and prancing around! |
I keep Ella in a travel type bag in the car, though I have recently been looking at the elevated car seats. Occasionally she does get carsick, so I keep an old small towel in there. I have had her for two months, and she does seem much better in there - the crying has stopped! lol She also just started realizing that putting her harness and leash on equals fun, so there is hope that they will start realizing these 'torture devices' are more fun than staying home alone! :) |

i want him to get used to the car so he doesn't always think that being in the car equals vet visit, lol. i think the only other times he was in a car before i adopted him was when he was going to a new owner. i want him to be able to put that thought out of his head for good. he's a keeper, lol. |
Baxter loves "going for a ride". If he hears one of us grab our keys he just trembles with excitement and begins his little "squealing" and runs to the door. He goes on many car rides - short and long. He's soooo good! I can even go shopping and he'll just lay down and take a nap. While driving he usually immediately lays down and takes a nap. One big problem we found was that he will look out the window when we leave the car and his foot will hit the "unlock" button. So - we do block his access to the front seats or put in him his travel kennel. Not a good thing to have unlocked doors when a precious little yorkie is sitting inside! |
